Man I totally feel you on the FA issue. I've met a ton of wonderful people on FA, and the site is hella useful for commissions-- but this recent issue is just.... so repulsive. And the fact that people want to hide it, or even defend it, is repulsive.

I truly hope that Weasyl continues to grow, and I also hope that your friends make a smooth migration too! c:

I advertise through here, DA and tumblr, and so far so good, nothing has slowed down. If you are ever in need of commissions, let me know! I will advertise for you!

yeah honestly i dont like this site much for several reasons but i want to leave FA... if it werent for the fact that im in a reaLLY tight spot with money i would leave FA now and (try) to just be active here.
But right now i cant afford to. Just because someone who may or may not have raped someone(not that i think he didnt, but its not like we really can know for sure) is working on a website doesnt mean i can just give it up and hope for commissions here.

Yo I've got a resource that I've created and am running/improving that's basically a database for people to submit their bio/info/examples and hopefully get some signal boosting and exposure with the main goal being helping people wean themselves off of FA/leave FA and so on- it's to help those who wanna leave FA and can't and feel trapped, or have left FA and are worried about their financial situation and such, and so on. (I'm also open for people submitting for help with emergency/abusive situaions and so on, though the current primary objective is surrounding the FA Exodus.

I decided that my activity on this site will include a more narrowed watchlist; my watchlist on FA is anyone who interests me, this one is about artists I feel I can actively learn from. doesn't mean an artist isn't good if I don't watch em, I just don't think I can learn from hyper-realistic rendering type artists, haha. that's not the road I want to take, either. you feel me?

like I've said before, I'm glad you're here, and now that I've been reading up on what dragoneer has actually been doing the past few years I am really starting to finally be disgusted with FA. I'm going to start equally dividing my attention between here and there, only I think I'll post my most refined and nice pieces here and my FA gallery will be for more silly and unfinished things.

I really hope to wean myself off FA as well. I figure really the only way to make it happen is to not just give up and go back (which I've done before, and I'm sure most people have). Hopefully recent events will also mark a better incentive for people to move and be active else where as well.

No yeah same, im so glad most of artists i respect are moving here and leaving FA, i know there's still a lot of work to do site wise, but i hope with the time it'll become as enjoyable or even better than FA. Friends and cool people make things thousand times cooler, i look forward to see more of your work here uvu

Don't worry too much about not being able to hide or delete comments! If you have a minor to serious problem you should just talk to a mod about it and they usually take care of things pretty quickly, unlike a certain place we all know where tickets go unanswered for months at a time.

Yeah what finally pushed me into leaving was having what was at first intended to be a pretty civil and polite discussion where I was keeping my cool just trying to inform someone of some facts about a certain issue, not even taking a stance at first. I just wanted to inform this person of why some assumptions about an issue that I care about they were spouting off were incorrect. The person just kept completely ignoring every cited study on the issue I brought up and eventually just stated they do not read scientific research with figures, data, and statistics, and they did not care to listen to real people with real experience in the matter, because it's likely to all be "made up." Rather, they listen to whatever the media says about the subject.

I seriously cried. Right there. Among all of the reasons I did, I could not help but weep for the sheer ignorance in a statement like "I watch the news instead of read studies for myself." I feel gross for even having participated now and just want to get away from it all, so this website and seeing more people moving makes me very comfortable thank you much. ˎ₍•ʚ•₎ˏ I like that this can be what we make of it and discussions like the one I just mentioned don't have to happen here and the forums are generally a pretty civil place!

Yeah, I agree with the thumbnail preview thing. I don't look at like, almost any of the submissions because of it.

I'm going to be doing the same thing with posting previews and advertisements and all. FA's been really disgusting recently and I'm actually kind of glad this happened? Cause now so many more people are giving Weasyl a proper chance instead of the "oh hey, FA's back up and it's not that great but I'll stay there anyway" kind of thing. The whole thing is just really unfortunate since there are so many nice people in FA's community. But their staff and their actions are unforgivable.

If anything, the site still is in beta! I'd say they've been doing a superb job for only being around for as long as they have. <3 And the admins are very responsive and actually transparent about what they do... haha.

I may try to do the same. Furaffinity is just . . . the sensitive issues aside, it's too much drama for me right now. Being on there stresses me out and I think that is plenty reason enough to distance myself. So I get that. My one questions is, do you think you'll post your sketches here, now that you're weaning off FA? I love seeing them. :>

Also, I'm really glad more people seem to actually be moving over. Even though weasyl isn't perfect I do prefer it over my other options, and unfortunately most of my closer friends don't really seem interested in joining, so I've been hoping things would pick up here so I wouldn't have to wait on my better half getting the free time to set up an account before I'd hang around more.

The coding takes a bit of getting used to, especially the more complicated parts, but you can just have the formatting guide open in another tab while you work and check back. The preview box for written stuff certainly helps.
