questions concerning uploads by Home

So basically I make a lot of stuff that doesn't end up getting posted to galleries, mostly because I feel like people on gallery sites are much more easily annoyed by certain things (i.e. me). SO humor me asking a few questions.

Is it annoying when artists upload sketches/doodles/etc? Is that dependent on the ratio of doodles to more polished works?

Is it annoying when artists upload multiple things daily (probably in the 3-5 range)? Is that dependent on whether they're uploaded in batches, as opposed to throughout the day? Is it dependent on the level of polish on those works?

Is there a preference for "lots of unpolished uploads" over "few but polished uploads" or vice versa?

Basically help me not annoy you because I worry overmuch about that.

I personally upload very few "polished works" I'm primarily a sketch artist. I like seeing sketches personally, but I also like seeing polished works. To me there is no ratio. Every artist is going to be different. Some are painters and love to paint, others are sketch artists.
However, I do not mind when there is a lot of work uploaded by an artist, whether it be in batches or throughout the day. Throughout the day means I'm more likely to see it, because I watch a lot of people and some of them upload in large batches(5-10+). I'd rather see an active artist drawing the way they feel comfortable with than a frustrated one.

But thats just my two cents.

I'm not annoyed by ether. I have a soft spot for doodles, unpolished work, etc. And I'm always behind on my inbox anyways.
    All is smooth~~☆

I absolutely love seeing all kinds of art. Doodles to finished, everything in between. It's great to witness what is going on in the mind of the artist when they touch their pencil (or tablet pen).

I have unwatched people when they've uploaded a whole fucking bunch (in the double digits) of sketches in one day, and then did it the next day!
I watch people because I want to see their work of course, but if you're going to just leave for a few weeks and then come back and just spam the shit out of everyone's inbox, it's not worth it.

Well, you can always put all your sketches for a day on a big sheet and upload that. A sketchdump. I wouldn't mind them being uploaded singularly tho, either. I like sketches and I like your work, so post away :D

True! I guess I got turned off of doing that by Weasyl's strange thumbnail system not being able to reflect the content of sketchdumps very well, but I suppose in the long run that's not too big of a deal.

Yeah, thats a bummer, but I think if you just pick out a good excerpt from the sheet and generally name it "Sketchdump X" or something, people will know I guess :) Hope to see that from you soon then ;D

As long as the sketches contain actual interesting content I don't really mind so much, you could post some of them as a collage if you're that concerned about it. Custom thumbnail would probably be best for that.

I'll admit that I have been annoyed in the past by certain artists uploading armfuls of work, but I think it had less to do with the quantity and more with how most of it was really, really unpolished sketching compared to what their (increasingly infrequent) final products looked like. But other artists can upload their sketches all day long and they're all great.

So, unhelpfully, I guess it really just depends. Though to address the other point, I think I personally prefer to see uploads in batches rather than trying to drag something out over a period of time, but that's just me.

I like sketches, you could always put lots of sketches into a single image and upload them as a sketchdump, like some people do.
That way of doing things seem more popular on DA than here, but it can look something like this http://guthrieartwork.deviantart.com/art/Sketch-Dump-2-294520519

Sketches are wonderful! And as others have said if you're worried about too many seperate uploads you can always compile a few before uploading. Although yeah the thumbnail system :c But its still workable?

Sketches and really any kinda artwork is awesome. Like others here have said, if it bothers you you could do sketchdumps or something like that - that's what I do when I have a bunch of doodles and generally unfinished stuff. But art is art and we love yours so yeah, post away!

That is a good question, actually. I might have to ask it to my followers at some point.

Once upon a time, before FA or even DA, there was a general audience-only art archive called Yerf. Among its many rules, one that just came back to me was that all artists were given a maximum of 5 uploads a day.

Now obviously this is not Yerf and the amount you want to upload a day is purely up to you (plus this would not be fair if you're uploading images that go in a set, for example), but as a guideline it might help out of bit, maybe? Just a thought.

(Semi-Unrelated, now I'm reminded of my ex, who once tried skirting around this rule by doing his 5 uploads just minutes before the site's rollover kicked in so he can upload 5 more, effectively managing to spam 10 in a row. That, added to past rules-skirting incidents, led him to getting permanently banned from the site. Served him right.)

Sketches don't really bother me so much. The only thing I've observed is that uploading batches can make every submission's activity suffer! I think when people see a huge pileup of art from one artist, all of the art takes a lower priority, especially if they're somewhat similar like a bunch of sketches or all of the same kind of commission or something.

If I like an artist enough to want to follow them, I want to see everything. From two minute scribbles to twenty-page comics.

I personally like to see everything and anything. I think a good way to go about this is to make a 'sketch dump' of maybe everything that you've sketched that day and upload that as one image, while posting finished pieces separately. That way followers get the content if they want it and if it's not wanted it won't cause a flood of notifications.
