Why birds? (a thought) by Happysorry

When it comes to birds, they are strange creatures. Shy, easily spooked and scared off. Most rather watch the trouble from afar than go in. And some silently gazing for the next opportunity. Some like to talk a lot but from a distance only calling those who really enjoy its sounds. While scaring off others with maybe those same sounds. They are anxious, shy, sometimes they travel in groups or stay very much alone. Some to represent power, some sillines, others joy, and some silence.

I can sometimes see why people chose birds for their own fursona or creature to represent themselves.

this is just a sillly thought u//wu.

I think that's why they're so amazing, they come in all kinds of variety. Bold birds, shy birds, quiet birds, loud birds, colorful birds, earthy birds, some who stay in the air most of their lives like swifts and tropicbirds, others who can't fly at all like ostriches and penguins, yet make up for their lack of flight with something else amazing like the power to run or swim. Then some of them are considered up there in intelligence with chimpanzees and dolphins, especially the corvid and parrot family. They are also the only creature that lives on every single continent. Birds find a way, even if the climate is totally barren for other life. It's amazing!

But I'm incredibly bias because I've loved them for years, haha!

I think the sheer variety of colors in birds is just amazing. While some people with other fursonas have to come up with crazy-colored canines and kitties...you can have a brightly colored bird 'sona, whose colors are completely natural to the species.

I think there are many reasons people choose birds. Some people may choose them because they envy/admire their ability to fly and perhaps may even represent the freedom they wish they had. Some might choose them because some have bright, crazy colours that are similar to what they choose to wear or might wish they could wear. Similar comparisons could be made with small, earthy-coloured shy birds or large, intimidating predatory birds. Just some things I thought.

I chose magpie as my 'sona for a lot of reasons. They're bold, obnoxious, intelligent, collectors, builders, social, and while they might look plain at first glance, their beauty is there for those who look.

Plus birds aren't as sexualized in the furry fandom >_>

Definitely good food for thought ^w^

tbh theres like,,, really specific reasons why i picked the bird species i used to hybridize into my persona ahha

    corvids are clever animals, blue jays are specifically noisy and boisterous, which i can certainly be on a good day. ravens are incredibly smart but also intensely loyal to their friends and family and rely on those close social connections. those two birds fit me p well tbh ;o;

plus, as delicate as birds are, they are probably one of the most resilient animals imo. they survive a lot, i mean scientifically speaking they are the final and current lineage of maniraptorian dinosaurs. theyre troopers. they are light and delicate(like me), but above all else they still survive. thats why theyre important to me, personally. motivators to keep going and something i can relate to and thus use as a personification of myself

I do love birds. It's a surprise I've never chosen one for my fursona. Perhaps it's just because I feel like I represent too many animals, so that a wolf/butterfly/bird thing would be... really strange looking xD

But I make up for that by sculpting so many different birds. People are always so surprised that I have such a huge number of birds, and that their markings are so distinct and specific. I love birds~ They're so colorful and cute and pretty and playful. I used to have parakeets too, and while none of them liked me very much, they were just so expressive and adorable and lively. Sometimes when my boyfriend and I are sad, we drive over to the local petstore and look at all of the parakeets and just talk to them to relieve stress xD

I love birds, especially when the little ones puff up their feathers and they look all chubby and cute. They're such great pets too because most of the time they're pretty independent but still enjoy your company. Their chattering and calling is also nice in the winter if you live somewhere cold and all the songbirds migrate down south. Birds are pretty great.

    They're not always shy!

What about crows? They'll only flee if they think you're up to something. xD They are smart and cocky and pranksters. Q U Q

And owls are 2spooky. But in a cool way. LOL They just staaarreeee.

I'd say they're pretty varied. Since there's also Parrots which are SOCIABLE AND LOUD.

I always find myself to be drawn to movies that have main characters as birds like Happy Feet and Rio :p they're very curious little critters and represent many things Xd like how my boyfriend is partially crow in his fursona is because he feels a connection with crows and their intelligence and dark, brooding. He also loves animes that involve flying and reaching for the sky <3 birds are the most interesting and probably the most relate-able creatures! Their personalities always vary vastly just like human beans X3

Birds come in a vast variety of sizes, shapes, colors and personalities ... If we're looking at it from a behavioral and personality standpoint, I really think there's a bird 'sona out there for everyone. Plus, birds are awesome. I'm really surprised that you don't see more (and a larger variety of) aves when it comes to fursonas. I mean, I get why people tend to be drawn towards mammals, especially dogs and cats, since those animals are generally the most involved in people's lives, but ... BIRDS DUDE. BIRDS. Why not?

There are also a lot of spiritual meaning, symbolism, myth and cultural associations with various types of birds. They're also very omnipresent. There are birds everywhere. Even if you don't pay them much attention, they're present in your everyday life. They're not something you need to google or go to a zoo to see. Because birds are a constant part of people's lives I think it's easy to latch onto them as meaningful and associate certain experiences or feelings with them. I read an interesting book recently about using birds as a means of divination ... really intriguing concept.

Birds are amazing animals and I love them very much. Yes, they get scared easily, but they are smart, they like to watch, the love to feel comfortable (puffyness yay) and mostly they can learn to love. Pet birds are the most amazing, cuddly creatures there could ever exist. They are shy, kind of grumpy, and like interaction only with some people, and if they feel loved, they will love you back uwu
