I'm trying a more elaborate way of patterning my bread loaves. I bet this could get really elaborate if I studied up on, like, Damascus steel or something.
Hmm. Making it resemble actual Damascus may prove to be far more frustrating than it's worth (and the colors may blend anyway) but I suspect/have read that a long, slow, cold rise helps to relax the dough. It tends to make it more airy and yeasty, so it's a worthwhile tactic regardless.

Unfortunately, applying the Damascus technique will make the dough far too tough.
