I think the "sex stuff" was largely misunderstood, frankly. People ignored key pieces of what I said -- that fandom should neither be for or against any given sexual behavior -- and looked at where I drew my own lines, and assumed that I projected them as a model of where everyone else should draw lines. I didn't. I'm entitled to my opinions -- which were also egregiously misquoted -- but I don't imagine them to be the best, let alone only, basis for others to form their own. My argument was that the fandom, as a collective identity, should focus on what it holds it common (anthropomorphic animals) and not get lost in debates about what those animal-people should and shouldn't do. It's not more or less "furry" to be pro-X or anti-X, unless X is "anthropomorphic animals." And that means my own mores and tastes are as irrelevant as anyone else's, really. This said...times have changed, the culture of the fandom has changed, and I accept this. Not my thing; I enjoy the animal-people pictures and accept that my low-key, just-a-Goddamned-hobby-get-a-life-already approach is not for everyone. I said what I had to say, and while I'm sad that so many people got defensive and angry about it, you know, more people have thanked me for saying it than flamed me, over the last decade. It was right to say when I said it; the fact that the fandom doesn't promote my ideal experience is perfectly okay, too.
