Amulrei by Deriaz

Breaking in my new tablet with a portrait painting of one of my friends, Amulrei (not on site). Got inspiration on this one from a few other artists around the net for how to make my lighting more interesting, as well as being told I need to start using my contrast a bit more intelligently, or "like you used to". Hopefully it shows.

Ugh. Derecho. Straight to the bone, man. </3

I had to be a little bit evil today.

Seriously: Lovin' the flowy surface of those wing sails back there.

Thank you~ I admit on those wings, I was looking at a few other artists and how they do that sort of texturing. I should make a note to do some studies of bat wings and stuff so I can tackle wings and thin skin better on my own without needing a nudge in the right direction from others. So many things to work on!

Evil Derecho is best Derecho. I forgive you.

The greys are painted so wonderfully here! :D

Yessssss. Perfect. I was actually slightly concerned, because this new tablet's display is slightly cooler than my monitor I was painting on before. So in flipping back and forth, I wasn't sure about the accuracy. If they look good to you, then I'll add another tally to it being okay.

      Thank you!

I can understand. I do all my scanning on my old computer (which was brand new when Windows XP came out), but the monitor has lost some colors (it has an overly blue tint now)--so when I scan my art I always have to keep in mind when I adjust things, don't mess with the blues! XD My laptop has a much more accurate display of colors...so I can say that your greys look really wonderful! :D

        You are most welcome! :)

This is a fabulous dragon!! I like how you worked with value. The scene looks dark, but still with plenty of contrast to make out the character with no problem!

Yesssss. Perfect. That was exactly the goal -- I knew I'd have to tackle it since his scales are black, so I figured I had even more reason to work on my contrast from the last critique I got. So glad to hear it works. Thank you so much!
