Vagabond by Casey LaLonde

Vagabond

Casey LaLonde

"The children were never as excited as they were when the vagabond paid his yearly visit, riding in from the borderlands on his strange, great robotic stag. They always loved hearing his songs from the wastes beyond…"

First collaboration .gif from Matt & I under the name Birdsock! I shot the photo and illustrated; Matt handled the special effects and .gif optimization (he’s a wizard)!

Throwing this into the comments here: I recreated the Samspelt deer (Qubicle + 3DsMax) for the wireframe and glitches (Plexus), and treated it with a little glow and lighting to boot. Also optimized it to hell and back with my Pro GIF Skills.

Had a lot of fun with it, to say the least! We've gotta do more of these.

It's a ten-pointer for difficulty to pull together photography, rendering and cartooning into one piece, so I'm rather in awe that the execution is so good :) That it throws in such odd, heterogenous details (giant flowers? electric deer?) and leaves them mysterious, but still repays the attention you give it in texture and expression... I've got to dig it, and I'd love to see more in the same vein.
