So, I've played all kinds of MMO's for several years (WoW for 8) and I played healers about 90%of the time...
During PVP/PVE a really good tactic is to always kill the healers first or ASAP at least...
...and...for some reason I was thinking about it and I realized..
How f'ed up in a real war that would be.
Vent art maybe? For all those years I was forced to play healers and not just have to endure the merciless abuses of the "other team" but also having to suffer from your own side. ( normally DPS trying to tank, or people standing in shit and then going "wtf heal me!")
For someone that has played quite a number of support and healers in MMOs, tabletops and other things, the feelings and desperation this piece engenders are strong and hit close to home for me.
This is gorgeous, and so relatable. I tend to go back and forth between healer and necromancy depending on the game and EVERY. TIME.
Nice pic. I love the dark feeling of it, and the healer's desperation as she tries to save her comrade.
Somebody here mentioned loving to see this "finished and polished." My question is, "who says it isn't finished and polished?" This picture is brilliant as it is.
Oh, and though I don't play MMO's that much, I do play on TF2 as a Spy quite often, and a Medic is considered a high priority target by the game. Strange though, how so many people look down on medics like they're not really anything. But as somebody who knows what they're doing and knows what a fully ubered Medic/Heavy combo can do to an enemy base, it goes without saying that the people who diss medics are complete idiots.
Thank you! I"m so happy you like it and that it sounds like the emotion I wanted to convey came through!! <3
Also bless you haha! ::whispers:: because I totally had this really super-awkward moment where I went " but I.... but I ....but I thought it was done?" I wanted to keep the details/contrast on the "bad guys" super uninteresting because I wanted the healer to be what people focus on, and empathize with... ::shrugs::
Oh well, honestly to everyone's credit (peeps who felt it wasn't polished)- my work is really never "polished" I guess ... I lose my attention span/drive super fast these days ... >.>
Thank you so much, Inanna <3
The glowy skeleton hands are slightly creepy XD I GM more than I play and in all my games it's bad form/a war crime to kill the healers/ancillary and any player silly enough to do so tends to find the going really hard afterwards ;)
I don't really play a lot of MMOs precisely because the attitude of a number of other people also playing is just annoying -_-
Love the piece just for the healer trying to do their thing and those scary shadows looming out of the background ready to off them (WAR CRIMES XD). Well executed :)
AH-HA!! YOU are awesome! I was wondering who would point out the bones-thing! <3 I thought I'd try and see if I could make the magic look more like it comes from the inside XD (it IS creepy though hahaha I'll give you that! Yay experiments!)
A GM?! That's awesome! Which games did you GM for?! (DnD maybe? or?) Just curious!
And you're right about the attitudes of the MMO scene- That's why I have really stopped playing them the last couple years- the players are 8/10 really toxic... :(
Thank you for your comment, and I'm super glad you liked it!
It was kind of the first thing I saw XD Coupled with the glowy eyes and mouth inside I think I like your version of magic coming from within :)
I've done Shadowrun, World of Darkness (usually mixed but currently am running Changeling for some kids incuding mine) and one I made up. Have played DnD but it didn't do much for me (and was kind of ruined because my ex couldn't separate game from real life and got all offended because the GM had a NPC flirt with my character who responded hoping to get cheaper rooms at the inn :).
NIICE! I've heard of both Shadowrun, World of Darkness ( I did ONE werewolf game session), AND changeling!
I've always wanted to get into those game-types but it's nigh impossible to find anyone who wants to GM/DM locally. So, I have major props-respect for people who are willing to do that! -highfives-
Also, I'm super sad to hear about your ex story- that's awful! What I mean is, I'm sorry they ruined the game experience for you!
I... I don't even know what to say about that behavior to be honest with you- that's so....odd to me? Just completely ...I don't understand that. XD (severely insecure maybe? idk)
Naww ^_^ It's not that hard :) Well I don't find it that hard but I can make stuff up pretty quick XD This Changeling game is actually the first time in a while, we used to play regularly when we were at uni and when the kids were tiny and then suddenly everyone grew up and got 9-5s which is bad for life in general ;) Give it a go if you have willing players :D
Yeah my ex was a bit weird like that. I have since found several other people across the internet and even a couple in meatspace that can't seem to separate themselves from their characters and I don't really get it either XD
Wow I love this piece! The emotion just feels so raw, and the expression on the healers face is just... perfect wow. Love seeing your art again, too <3
Yeah I never really thought about that for real life x.x that would be sorta be us (hospital workers unite lol) and... well no thank you ;o; such a sad thought. But this turned out crazy awesome looking. I love the darkness with the green glow. And the little details are wonderful. Dat helmet :F and I think the skeleton hands look cool e.e (is it weird to think you were typically a healer in game and sorta that irl?? Like it's sorta funny how that works x3)

That would be really messed up.
