You have to click the "view shockwave flash animation" button under the picture to start it, BTW. Use the arrow keys to stop the animation and turn it around manually. ^^ Sorry about the speed of the animation!

Very impressive. Do you take these sorts of simple model commissions?

    • Link

Well... I wouldn't call it simple. ^^ This is the result of about 50 hours of work! Yes, I do take commissions for 3D models. But as you could imagine, they can get to be pricey. ^^ I don't USUALLY take this long though.

    Very nice work here! X3

Oh wow, your models are getting real nice c:
It's rare somebody can pull off a cute style in 3D without it going into the Uncanny Valley, and you're right at the top

      Thanks~ ^^ I'm all about the cuteness!

Yes! you are very true. A lot of the time i've noticed some people make 3D models look pretty creepy. Bitcoon is very good at not making them look creepy X3

Mostly this is because a lot of people tend to use the already uncanny looking Krystal model and adapt it to their characters or they use a standard human model and furrify it. (the classic example of putting an animal head on a human body. X.x) Another problem is that those other modellers work their way based on what their teachers described without looking at 'what' they're modelling, so even though the model 'technically' looks 'A-Okay', from a visual viewpoint it can still be unappealing. :3

I think what makes Bit's models stand out is because he builds his characters by hand and respects the original art. (I mean as in: He respects the character as its represented in the artwork and doesn't jump through hoops to make them work.) A lot of professional modelling is adapting and changing which is taught in many modelling classes, what most of them don't teach you is how you can re-create a seemingly 'unlogical' looking character. It requires a good sense of sight and understanding of dimensions to know how a fictional character would actually 'look' and 'work' in 3D and I believe that Bit takes his time to use every single trick in the book of 3d to represent them in the best way possible.
A standard modelling teacher (like the ones I've had) would probably start to point out all the 'mistakes' and 'faulty descisions' the moment he saw his models, but in this case it does give the 'better' result.

Bit basically proves that there is no exact 'right' or 'wrong' way to do things as it's the end result that counts.
I'm personally getting sick of seeing entire conversations based around what modelling program is the best (the Maya and Max fanboys) or what technique was used to create a model; as long as the end result looks nice, I don't care if it's done in frigging 'True Space' for example. What was that saying? "The art looks good! Your point is invalid."? Something a lot of these 'modelling experts' should learn in my humble opinion. 3D is a visual medium, it's art and art can be done in any way as long as you take the time to wrap your head around it. X3

(this comment was longer than I had originally planned. -^w^)

Dingdingding, exactly what I was thinking, nobody seems to make the models fit the original artstyle, they always go for "Hyper realism" and ruin it. Compare the models from the Sly Cooper games to the new movie, the games look much better because they have a definite style, the movie is just "make it look real"

    awwww this is so cute

I need to learn to rig models. Can't wait until i can create a good looking character model! Would love to start animating them and stuff.

Are we allowed to swear on here? Because I do it to plus express how cool I think things are. XP Anyway, I like his hood collar. The hood is a bit small for his/her head though. ^^

    • Link

Hehe, I guess it must stretch to fit his head, huh? :P It's about the same size he draws it at, so I stuck with that. :>

Ah, that makes sense. Cool. ^^

    Wow this is awesome

I'm a little afraid of asking, mainly because you've might have already said this somewhere. But what do you use to provide a 360° flash animation? It's such an amazing way to present a rigged model.

KP-Shadowsquirrel on Deviantart let me use their Flash turntable. :>
