Creature/Character Collab: Drosseracta Sapiens Part 2

Sparkyopteryx

Companion piece to Part 1 Description once again taken from our collaboration account (written by him again):

Some more Seraca, because who can resist such a pretty face?

This time around we are showcasing the attack and defense methods of Droserracta Sapiens!

First you'll have no doubt noticed Seraca's face. As you can see it opens up deceptively wide, even moreso than is portrayed. The mouth is never revealed in such a manner unless the subject in question has already paralyzed or incapacitated the prey in some manner beforehand. Prey that will fit is simply shoved into the throat by hand with the assistance of the teeth and the tongue. In the case of something too large for the mouth or the tail, acid will be used to accommodate a necessary change in size. This is unusual for Seraca himself to do, as he is a bit picky about his food and usually won't eat something that is covered in too much acid (Or even bother killing something that large in the first place). More commonly, he applies acid to just the right places to break something down into pieces.

Next to show is the hands; These are covered in a sweet smelling (similar to his hair) sticky substance that is incredibly adhesive. This allows him to climb a lot of dry natural surfaces with incredible ease. It also makes it harder for prey to become dislodged once grasped. The long red thorns you see (all dangerous parts of Droserracta Sapiens are red in color) are retracted into the hand unless being used. While these also assist with grasping prey, their primary function is to deliver a natural toxin that causes disorientation and paralysis (Insectoid creatures are more susceptible than others to this).

Finally we have the second mouth. This is located on the end of the tail, which typically is curled up behind him like a pretty leaf covered garden hose (that somewhat resembles the plume of a unicorn's tail). Otherwise hidden, it can sort of "un-zip" if you will into the terrifying mouth you see pictured here. This allows the eating of larger prey than his head is capable of managing, and the digestion process is even quicker for most things. The teeth along the edges are quite nasty and will be used to bite in defense, leaving nasty wounds that are difficult to heal due to the nature of the thorns exiting the flesh(some thorns in real life do this). The tail itself secretes acid as well to aid in breaking down food, though Seraca himself typically picks something he can simply envelop much like an actual venus flytrap. The actual mouth of the tail acts independently of the host, though the host controls the tail itself.

Artist stuff: Ho boy, you have no idea how much fun it was to draw his face like that. XD Scarecrows and similar creepy monsters I've loved since I was little and this guy is the picture of all that is freaky and unsettling. I WANT TO DRAW HIM MORE. And I mean lots more (I love plant characters, just saying). Anyway I think I'll stop gushing now. Done with a variety of markers, Stabilo pens and ballpoints. No critiques on this along with the first one please; they're design concepts so they aren't supposed to be that refined. Art belongs to me and character belongs to ![](user:MisterMidnight) and sundry ideas come from the both of us.

    THAT

    FACE

    *mad scientist laughter*

I love it so much, he's so subtle in how dangerous he is. So deceptive. So beautiful and sweet looking, until the hidden parts come to play.

This all comes as no surprise, considering his "Mother."

She's totally his mother; She made him afterall. At least, he seems to think of her as such. This is what happens when you give budding plant monsters lots of love and attention before they become big man-eating plant monsters.

It's partially her fault anyway; she couldn't help but get a little emotionally invested in him, since he's a thinking and feeling creature. Their relationship is definitely more of love and affection than mad scientist and creation. She loves her little "flower child." XD

            Flower Child pffffffffffffffhaha

            I love it.

(And yes, it certainly is. He's no frankenstein's monster.)
