Creature/Character Collab: Drosseracta Sapiens Part 1 by Sparkyopteryx

Creature/Character Collab: Drosseracta Sapiens Part 1

Sparkyopteryx

Collaborative creature/character concept by myself and MisterMidnight Part 2 coming up shortly. Here is the original description copied from our collaborative account over on dA and FA (written by him):

First, a scene:

"You spy a tall creature emerging from the underbrush, seeming to walk towards you in a most flashy manner. You're reminded of several kinds of plants all at once, your eyes snared by this stunningly beautiful form. Tearing your eyes from the sensual face you notice its uncurled tail; A massive, spine-filled, fly-trap like mouth at the tip preparing to lunge forward."

This character I've named Seraca, which I derived from the family names of Sundew, Cacti, and Venus-Flytraps (Though Pitcher Plants were considered for the naming purpose too, as they feature in his design also). I was inspired one night to create a creature based around my favorite plants, and it's no coincidence most of them are horrific in some way. As you can see he's quite beautiful and somewhat feminine (Though I've made sure his masculine traits are obvious, such as his shoulders), and this is very intentional. Being what he is, I felt it only fitting for a plant creature. Not to mention, this guy is carnivorous and quite large. You certainly wouldn't want to mistake what he is, as his seemingly docile and gentle nature can disappear in a flash.

The creatures themselves I've named Drosseracta Sapiens, which is also derived from the previously mentioned Family names. They're quite thoroughly thought out in the manner of both genders. As a rule of thumb they all share certain appearance traits, though as I work on them more variations will become thought out. The idea here was to create something Gothic, and I think I've succeeded. They're beautiful and deadly while looking just a little inhuman, and their manner of feeding is truly horrific indeed. The males are somewhat feminine but not girly, the females are truly stunning. Their colors are carefully planned for such a theme while still being taken from actual plants, as was the aim with all of his realistic features.

Artist stuff: As the description above shows, he did a lot of the initial concepts and ideas, I just added to it and put in my artistic two cents. Also I was responsible for the final design (cobbled together from his ideas). It's rather hard to describe our creative process, as we kind of feed off of each other's ideas and by the time it's done it's a little hard to tell or remember who thought of what, so it becomes nitpicking at that point. I did this with Prismacolor markers and Stabilo pens; I want to do more of this media combo again (used to do it a lot in high school). Character belongs to ![](user:MisterMidnight) and the art belongs to myself.

Good grief I love him, he's one of my favorite creations of late. He's everything I was aiming for, and he himself as a character is falling together flawlessly.
