I saw! It was all over my Twitter feed for the 30th anniversary. I'll have to get around to playing it for sure.

      • Link

I played it's last build before launch and damn... They really polished this game even further.

Hello! I was told you resigned from modding our forum. That makes me quite sad since I've always greatly appreciated your presence when you were around. :c
But I hope things are smooth in your life!

    • Link

That is because I decided to leave the community entirely. That's sweet of you to say, and yes things are going smoothly! Moreso that I no longer waste substantial amounts of time in aforementioned.

      • Link

Oh, I heard. It makes me sad you were pushed away by some of the awful people there. I figured they'd have respect for at the very least, you. You've still got utmost respect from me at least. Always have.

        • Link

One may never know. Thank you though, that's sweet of you to say.

    Hey hey again.

Hello there! How are you today?

Do forgive my sudden emergence, but a certain, certain someone c: told me that you may have a passion for the ancient Egyptian culture and mythology. As such, must ask you: Do you happen to know anything regarding ancient Egyptian cuisine and culinary traditions?

A sudden curiosity of mine was aroused towards this subject. I think cuisine is a very prominent mirror that reflects a civilization's social lifestyle a lot. Not to mention that the searches I made throughout the internet directed me to muslim cuisine.

    Thank you! ))))

By the way, I hope you do not mind I take the liberty to glance throughout your gallery. I dare say, I appreciate your literary talent.

      I am doing well, yourself?

You know, I don't know very much and the little I did read I've since forgotten. I might have a look through a nice book I have here to see if I can find anything. I would imagine though that it might be a bit more complicated that some cultures, given that Ancient Egypt spanned an amount of time that is almost difficult to properly grasp. I've heard it said that Cleopatra lived closer to the iPhone than the construction of the Great Pyramids in a time sense and while I've yet to fact-check that I think it serves to make a point nonetheless.

Of course not, it's all here for anyone to read at their leisure! My only hope is that it is entertaining. Thank you for the compliment, I've still got your recent submissions sitting in my inbox I should get around to going through.

On some initial looking around, it looks like their cuisine remained remarkably stable for over 3000 years. Bread and beer were their staples, with the beer being a very nutritious sorts similar to gruel. They supplemented those two things with vegetables (Mostly green onions, garlic, celery, and the all-important lettuce. Set's favorite you know.) and fruits (Mostly figs, dates, and grapes). Meats involved beef, poultry (not chicken), mutton, pork, and sometimes fish. Legumes were also a major source of protein along with the figs.

There's a lot of other details but that's the basics.

I am doing well, as well. Easter Holiday is here so I am focusing on personal projects and a well deserved relaxation as well as spending time with my family. Other than that, I am taking care of an indigogo project.

And yes, I agree with what you said regarding Cleopatra, and it may well be true considering that Egypt was existing around the period of the Bronze Age even and Cleopatra saw herself with Marcus Antonius, dragged in the middle of the Civil War.. In my opinion, the Egypt in the Cleopatra period is hardly Egypt anymore due to the galore of Hellenic and Latin influence it received. Correct me if I am wrong, please, but didn't Cleopatra have Hellenic roots now that I think about it?

Thank you very much for the information, by the way! I appreciate that greatly!
I have been lately curious about experimenting with Egyptian cuisine, seeing as I already benefited from latin (Ancient Roman) cuisine during our reenactment events. It is always interesting to eat the way the Ancients used to do.

Could you provide any sources if I may ask ever so kindly, please? I would love to read more into that.

I find it interesting that they consumed pork. Mainly because, as far as I know, the practical reason why islam now forbids the consumption of pork is that pork meat degrades very easily, and if you combine that with the arid, hot climate of North Africa and Middle East, you can get some nasty side effects, as far as I heard. It still is my favourite meat, though!

Thank you again for the enlightening information!

As for your writing, be certain, it is most entertaining! I will surely keep a close eye on it. I hope you will find my works to your liking as well, looking forward to hear your word on them.

She was of a Macedonian Greek family during the Hellenistic Period that was plagued by inbreeding. I'm in agreement with you for the most part, although you have to credit the Greeks for leaving the Egyptians' culture intact, unlike the Romans that came after. Cleopatra at least spoke Egyptian.

I suppose if you're going to try Ancient Egyptian style bread stick with more modern methods. Apparently the quern stones they used left grit that was hell on teeth. I'd jump at the chance to try any of the things they made with figs and dates, though.

The site I read referenced The Oxford Encyclopedia of Ancient Egypt which I unfortunately do not have.

From the same Oxford Encyclopedia: "Mutton and pork were more common. Poultry, both wild and domestic and fish were available to all but the most destitute" along with mice and hedgehogs. To my current knowledge the only meat I recall Egyptians being iffy about at any particular period of time revolves around avoiding fish, as in one version of the Osiris myth his lost penis was eaten by a fish in the Nile.

It's rare (for me) to find writers on these gallery sites and I've much wanted to expand my reading selection. I wandered here from Sparkyopteryx and fell straight into your Camazotz post. Quite enjoying your poetry and writing!
