How to not compliment a character design:
"Hey, looks just like my character/character from [x] series" — SirMeo

Heeey. I don't mean to sound whiny, but really, please stop comparing my characters to X or Y. I spend a lot of time on them, they're my babies, and the ultimate slap to the face you can give me is if your comment contains nothing but "Hey it's.../ looks like..../It's a 2.0 version-of...".
They're not. They're mine and chances are they took days/weeks/months to think about and hours of tweaking. And it's a pretty awful kick to wake up to check my mail or comments an see nothing but that. If your comment is going to be any of the above, please save it for yourself. It's impossible to not draw parallels in art, I know that, we all know that, so, Please.

Omg You don't know how many times I see journals about this from people.
It is really annoying when people do that. It use to happen to me a lot, back when I was well known. I even drew a small chibi comic about it once.

Yes, thank you! I rant about this so much, haha. It's so frustrating and insulting, even though it's usually not meant to be. I can't tell you how many times my fursona has been called 'If Jem got bit by a werewolf' because she's an 80's glam singer with pink hair. x_x

I've had to outright scrap characters because of how much people would do it or find even more things to shove onto it. I tried not to let it get to me, but when multiple people would pull it it just became attached to the character in my head and I had to let it go. I'm constantly terrified someone will do it to my naga, they've already done it to Meowiarty (They won't stop comparing me to Dexter which I don't even watch and she was based off something else entirely, at least compare me to the original if you HAVE to, not the ones she has no tie too).
