A declaration of war by Rainbow Apocalypse

My oldest and greatest enemy: Conventional sci-fi

I might be wrong on this, but I have a distinct feeling that the kind of sci-fi I want is a niche greatly unfulfilled, at least in this day and age. I keep seeing so many things dance upon the precipice of where I want sci-fi to go, only to pull-back before things get too strange or too extreme, or even play it all off as a joke. It is outright frustrating and aggravating me lately... and I think that's it: that's the sign, isn't it? I hate to sound cliche or even pompous, but it's reached the point that I feel "if you want something done right" and so on. I have spoken with friends before about some rather ambitious projects, things that I honestly thought would remain more-or-less in the conceptual stage perpetually. This is no longer feasible. In order for me to be happy, I think these things must be made reality, and they will be (eventually).

So remember that, and remember this journal.

Leave your comfort zone now, because it's going to be nowhere in sight once we go down those rabbit holes I plan to take you through. We are literally traveling into the unknown from this point on.

I completely understand what you're saying and share similar feelings. There are so many subgenres and interesting variations of scifi that we rarely (if ever) get to see or read, for me one of those untapped areas being xenofiction (God how I would kill for a pure xenofiction film). And I can't wait to see you're contribution to the scifi revolution, because it needs change and now! Good luck to you on your projects! :)

Oooooohhhhhh this is tickling me in all the right places. YOU'VE GONE AND EXCITED ME NOW

I dunno what your beef with Sci-Fi is, but for me I'm so tired of seeing basic -modern human- structure in future societies or alien societies. As a society, for the past 150 thousand years, we've done nothing but advance, and that advancement should always continue when people write sci-fi, but instead they choose to right this stand still society, sure they have tech but where is the advancement in human thought and culture? It annoys the piss out of me.

Also, extra terrestrial beings should not a.) look anything like us and b.) have a culture anything like ours. The chances for both are so slim it's almost impossible, we have this structure for designing aliens in sci-fi in which they must stand upright like humans, speak words like humans, dress in clothes like humans, and act as humans would be able to act. It makes me want to throw bricks! THROW ALL THE BRICKS! AT SCI-FI WRITERS!

So anyway, I can't wait to see what you do :D

    okay, -really- excited. :o

You have an affinity for the delight of the darkness, of the horrifying monsters of nightmares and their bizarre beauty. I think it's arguable that, if anything, you've helped to assist in moving that "comfort zone" already with your creations. So if you're making a clear declaration of comfort zones being redefined once again, my, I sure can't wait to see what sorts of things you come up with.

Break the wall. That's what it was built for. :)

That's good to hear, but don't be surprised if that is genuinely tested! That is one of the reasons why I am enthusiastic about this, I find it very interesting what people are willing to accept as good or bad, or just what they're willing to accept at all. Some time ago, I passed around 'something' between some friends and some random people inquiring. The reaction was very positive.... and very negative. The consensus was, more or less, that I had crossed a line. Whether that was a good thing or not was entierly up to the individual. The part that made me most happy is the images in question involved nothing bizarre looking, no gore, nothing gross or otherwise horrifying. No, it was the idea itself that people felt so strongly over. I believe this is the point where all good things start.

Isn't that just such a wonderful sensation, though? That experimental phase, where you pass a concept along to those nearby... and then after consuming the idea, they recoil as if electrified, as if something in their brain just kicked at them to say "something strange and unfamiliar just happened."

Eliciting that reaction from someone, that moment where you absolutely know you caused someone to question their reality is one of life's more pleasurable moments. Now I'm even more excited to see what could cause such polarizing moments. Those are the moments of artistic gold. Good luck. :)

Oh gods, please send me whatever that was.

I wanna see horror and scifi make a horrific mess of a child. If anyone can make this happen it's you. <3

I think you are lucky to found something...well...new! That's really cool and as many others i can't wait to see what you are up to ___

About convetional sci-fi. I share your feeling there. For the same reasons i dislike classic fantasy so much. It's just super boring -_-
But there are a few scifi things i like. Space Odyssey 2001 for example. But movies like that are different then the conventional scifi anyway.
To me at least...uh...loosing topic here.

And I see nothing wrong with this, whatsoever ^o^

    Rock on, I support you

And yea, I almost constantly feel -- in fact I can't think of an example beside from my own twisted headspaces, not at the moment at least -- where anything has gone /far enough./ I am in the moment unsure even about my own twisted headspaces. I am over and over underwhelmed by the level of darkness that is acceptable in media or about anywhere. I get bitter about it.
