Hrrm~I feel so at home at Weasyl right now. I love it! <3
It's been said many times already, but I'm so glad the activity here finally took off :)
I love the people that are active here and I also love the motivation i get from the site in the last few days~
Also I wanted to say thanks to you people, for the honest critique I asked for and also the nice words you always share with me (not only on the art, but in general). If know me a little you know that i constantly hate everything i do and sometimes even without good reason. Don't want to talk too much about this...
Just thanks for helping me seeing the "good-side" in things <3
Besides that I wanted to ask your opinion:
Is my Submission-Folder Structure too complicated? Do you find your way around? Also i'm curious about how you manage the Folders here on the Site :)
Mine currently it looks like this and i fear i overdid it a bit. (Yeah, i think a lot about this things...)
COMMISSIONS
-----Adult
-----Badges
-----Illustrations
PERSONAL ART
-----Adult
-----Fursona Arts
-----Illustrations
Trades & Gifts
x Fanart
x Old Art
x Scraps
The X in front of the bottom folders is so that they appear last in the list, since it's sorted alphabetical.
I was just about to update my folder structure too! Such a coincidence - but definitely one of Weasyl's best features. I think your structure looks nice and organized!
I don't think it is too complicated.
What would you put in the "Illustrations" sub-folders though?
I need to come up with a folder system which works for someone who only gets commissions and doesn't do his own art. :P
The big Folders "COMMISSIONS" and "PERSONAL ART" stay empty and everything that doesn't fit the other subfolders goes into Illustration. That's the plan. You can actually take a look in my submissions to see what i mean :)
And ... well...if you only have Commissions you don't have to deal with the problem of keeping private and commissioned art separated. that's handy XD
I'm glad things are having a positive effect on you. The activity here and close-knit feeling is nurturing. n___n
I have my folders organized in a bizarre way that bothers me and I wish I hadn't done it. XD
I have Toony with sub categories - Painting - Creepy - and Estranged.. I think that's it. But there is cross-categories between all those that kinda bugs me. xD I love the folders I just wish I utilized them more sensibly. It's good that you put a lot of thought into yours. I don't think it's over-done.
I like your setup too :) It's very specific for your art and portfolio (not general like mine) - You can read the Folder names and get an overview of things you like do draw. That's cool too!
But yeah, i had the "one submission - one folder" problem as well first. That's why i tried to keep it as general as possible so it always can always fit only one category (I categorize by "what it is" rather then by "what is the topic")
I just tend to totally over-think this kind of things (that's why DA is very exhausting for me - so many possibilities fuck O_O)
That looks reasonable to me. You might not need to separate out ADULT stuff as Weasyl does have a content tagging system. When then eventually implement a SFW function (it's been talked about on the forums) - do you really want an empty ADULT folder hanging out there for all SFW people to see? "Gee, I wonder what's in there?" LOL
Otherwise your scheme makes sense to me. The only thing I see others doing is a COLLAB folder, but you could put those in your Trades & Gifts folder I guess.
That seems like a fine folder structure to me! And can I just say, on the subject of Weasyl positivity, how great it is that you can have structure like that here? :D
I'm kind of an art whore as much as I am a creator, and I'm combining my by-me and for-me FA accounts here (and I swear I have better organization here in my one account than I did with two over there!) so my folder structure looks something like this:
BY ME
---Stories
---Drawings
---Icons
---Photography
FOR ME
---Drawings
---Stories
FEATURED (because I wanted to make a separate folder with the "feature things in this folder" option and exactly one entry in it just so I could always feature my novel on my front page; it would have gone in By Me/Stories otherwise)
I love the idea of having folders. Question: is your scraps folder a folder you have specific settings for that keep its contents from appearing on your followers' feeds? If so, has it been effective? I have been really gunshy about uploading anything in-progress or that would otherwise be considered of a scrap because I have been trying to keep it from being the first image people see when they go to my profile and I sure dont want to flood people's feeds with my rough work.

Your folders are set up about as complicatedly as mine xD
Aka in my opinion, I think it's a good set up. It makes it easy to navigate if you're really looking for One Specific Thing~
