3d Modeling Program by D6016

So hey, for those who don't know.
I actually did a course in 2D 3D animation!
We focused mostly on 3D Stuff, which is a problem when your teacher was a Traditional 2D animator.
who worked on all the cartoons i watched as a kid

anyhow, i am looking to get into it again, probably going to start with some low poly stuff.

but i don't know what programs to use anymore, and what is available X3
specifically free if possible, and preferably not pirated >.>

y'seeeee... i only ever worked with Maya 6.0, this came out before they got bought up by autodesk. >.>

when i figure some stuff out, i was thinking of offering some Low

    I know there is Blender from the blender foundation which is available out there for free. Though it mighht be complex to use.... this said iirc it's well documented with much tutorials avalaible.

        i'll second blender. not friendly to people new to the program but its help documentation is indeed good. used to use it years ago

    some Low... low what? what?!

    Blender, of course.
    Autodesk now does a free educational license thing that doesn't inspect you too closely, I've used 3DS Max and Mudbox under this. Maya should be covered too.

        Ooh, definitely consider 3DS Max under the educational license, since Unity uses FBX.

    I like maya personally ^^
    I find it more intuitive than max (too many menus imo)

    I'm still running on Maya 7.5 myself. Wish I could offer some ideas on other free 3D programs, but I don't know of any other than Blender.

    I would strongly urge that you avoid Google Sketchup or whatever Google calls it's "3D Program" I ran with someone who used it for that game I asked you to do concept work for. It just sucks, no animation, poor modeling and texture work and does not import with other files.

    Blender is pretty nice now they've got rid of the atrocious interface they had up until 2.4
