Whhhhhyyyyyyy technology.......!!! :< by keirajo

This has not been my week for technology. A site I get prescriptions on needs me to update information........which they haven't asked me to do in five years. Do I remember my password? OF COURSE NOT. And rather than the standard, typical asking for an e-mail address.........it asks me for a username. Uh. goes blank Being that this is a real life important thing I............usually I would have assumed it was my real name, right? NOPE. (Did I seriously use my common internet username for a prescription site username?! @_@)

I feel like I may have been better off calling the toll-free phone number to deal with this. You see--I may love giant robots, but technology and I are not really good friends. We have troubles understanding each other. A LOT. sigh

Then, this weekend I go to color some things in CLIP. Well, the last time I was online with CLIP open.......it updated. (Which was at work, last week, because I was doing something FOR work on my personal laptop IN CLIP.)

WHY MUST UPDATES CHANGE EVERY SINGLE THING YOU KNOW AND LOVE ABOUT A PROGRAM? cries

I spent about 30 minutes being angry at CLIP's new user interface, specifically the left side toolbar area.........that I couldn't even get help for under the "help" pulldown option. Listen to me using swear words that I generally never voice in real life (and only write in my fiction)--colorful, fun swear words that have probably never come out of my mouth ever before.

Even now, I can't get that stupid toolbar set up to a way I like.........and it feels like it's forcing you to use keyboard shortcuts, WHICH I JUST DO NOT USE, OKAY. :<

No, technology and I are not very good friends, to be honest.

I couldn't even figure out why my iPad was making sounds, which I turned off on my iPhone.........and it seemed everything about my iPhone HAD synched with my iPad. But it was still making alert chirps in the middle of the night that I started leaving the iPad in my backpack to mute it. NOPE, HAD TO GO INTO SETTINGS AND TURN ON "DO NOT DISTURB" OVERNIGHT THERE TOO. headdesk

I want to go back to being a kid, when life was simpler....... cries I'm not even "senior citizen" and I just cannot come to grips with understanding technology. Maybe I should just go become a hermit in the mountains.......... sigh

Whhhhhyyyyyyy technology.......!!! :<

UGH the clip update. It changed how some of my favorite tools work so I can't really use them anymore with the same effect :/

    • Link

Everything's like under tabs now...........more tabs don't make things look more organized. :< At first, I couldn't even figure out how to change the types of tools under the particular tool icon (like pencil, pen, paint--or the blend one with "blend, blur, etc.).......I was angry and I was almost crying. I wanted to change the type of a particular tool and couldn't figure out how to do it, until I looked at every single tab that was there. :<

Also, I was annoyed at how you could have that one "middle" column with the brush you were using and the color selection thing in the same column, now you have to switch between them with tabs (and now there's so much un-used space!!!). WHY TABS??? :/ I was used to the icons and then clicking the icon of what you wanted would give you the option of the different brushes/tools--which would also contain the sizing and stuff. Now even the sizing parts of a tool are under a different tab. @_@

You would think that the "Help" pulldown menu would've helped me out even a little bit, but what was in the help menu wasn't even...........really helpful. sigh

Yeah, the option to go back to the classic UI would've been nice, at least.

It feels like when they try to make things “user friendly”—all they do is make it USER UNFRIENDLY! :/

  • Link

i dislike when things update and change everything XD only if they can make things easier on everyone whenever updates happen :P

    • Link

I feel like they should give users an option to keep a user interface the way it is instead of automatically changing it. Or allow users not to download an update that changes things drastically! XD

I almost got out my Manga Studio original install disc and just installed that instead! XD

man I hate when sites change.. especially when it's completely unnecessary to do so! >.< This especially goes for youtube and google. they're always changing layouts. it's stupid really, and not needed. nobody cares about "fancy schmancy" layouts. we only want sites that work and easy to use. changing layouts for that is a waste of time and is just gonna anger and confuse everyone. not to mention putting people off and making everyone leave. COUGH deviantart. (not that I care for a crappy site like that tho.)

    • Link

Yeah--when they bill such changes as "more user-friendly"...........I don't think they understand how much more UNFRIENDLY they've made the site for users. Most people don't want to re-learn menus and options in order to use things they love. Layout preferences should become an option, not be forced if someone doesn't want it. nods

yeah! at least furaffinity's redesign didn't go overboard like dumb old deviantrant! people only hate deviantart for the layout, i just hate it for the crappy community it has. but i still don't blame people for leaving a site that has changed into a confusing and rubbish new layout. i only blame people for the bullying and drama they cause, making the innocent peeps like me leave the crappy sites like deviantart. the only thing i hate about deviantart's new layout is that it's making all the toxic/bad people move onto all the nicer art sites, spreading like a disease to kill off those who are innocent.

I suppose as long as these corporations need money--they make changes to try and "get new people" to their sites. It's the same mentality comic book companies have when they're like "we're rebooting this beloved franchise", because they think they can't get new fans unless they start with a "#1 issue". IDW's [Hasbro-mandated] Transformers reboot has not done nearly as well as the series they built up over 10 years (2007-2018), which they were forced to end by December 2018. I think the 2019-to-today series is only "meh" and most fan-reviews I see are very uninterested in the plot or characters of the reboot. But Hasbro was convinced by forcing a reboot and starting with a "#1 issue", they could "double" their fandom for the comic (assuming everyone already into the previous universe series would keep reading the new one). Yeah, that never really works in the real world, even if companies think it works on paper.

Oh nooooooo/ That sounds like one heck of a time :/

Certainly NOT the kind of excitement I wanted to have to start the week! laughs

I feel the user interface of a dozen tabs was not necessary in CLIP (except if only to force you into keyboard shortcuts--but I'm not an octopus, so I don't have that many hands to manipulate a keyboard AND a pen! XD).........that columned tool bar on the left was good the way it was. And Kilo (thenextgenhero) above is unhappy with the brush situation of the updates. I'm still not even sure if I know where everything is under the whole tab situation yet. I'm sure there's stuff I'll find out as I get back to using it...... @_@

I haven't taken a look at CSP since the update >. > Mind, I do use SOME hotkeys for basic stuff I need but yeah, when things change around, it can be a problem. I had a custom layout so we will see how much they messed with it lol. Oh boi.

        • Link

Hopefully it won’t mess up your workflow too much! :)

You might adjust better than me since you’ve used different programs, too—I’m old and resistant to changes! XD

          • Link

I hope not. I need to hop back into it and finish an alternative version of a piece and i'm nervous LOL.

Possibly! CSP was hard for me to get into until I was forced to do it because SAI wasn't able to handle the sheer amount of layers on that big YCH, so we will seeeee.

            • Link

I hope you don't have much trouble!

From what I've seen CLIP and SAI have a lot of similar interefaces--so, at least between those programs it was like "early training". But everything always has to just be different enough that you grumble bad words to yourself sometimes. chuckle

                Crossing fingers!!!

                • Link

helps out with more crossed fingers

  • Link

Wow sounds rough, I had some troubles myself where some transfers I used on some shirts bled when I did a wash test because the info on the package doesn't tell you exactly what kind of wash cycle you need to use >3>

I don't think I even noticed clip had an update and changed things, maybe it's cos I haven't used it in a while. I should check it out and see what changes were made and if it's gunna murder my art.

    • Link

OOOOOOOHHHH, yeah! I ordered a shirt from someone and it came with no wash care instructions--it was basically they took something like a Cricut machine and printed it on the tee-shirt, so it was a generic tee-shirt. I had to Google instructions for wash care on a printed shirt like that.......... @_@

From some of the messages on the front part, it looks like there's another update coming up soon, which was delayed recently--maybe that update will change more or reset things? I'm usually OFFLINE when I'm doing my coloring in CLIP, so I'll admit.........my CLIP program probably hadn't updated in like a year or so. XD (Though there are times when I'm tempted to reinstall from the original Manga Studio disc--what it was before it became CLIP--since sometimes the animation functions I never even use tend to slow down the program.......!)

      • Link

I actually made tags which I attached to the shirts I made which explains in detail how to take care of the shirts so the iron on transfer I used will survive the washing and not bleed if it's the first wash. I don't want people getting one of my shirts and thinking I'm using bad quality.

Oh then I probably do have the updated version and I just take so little notice it slipped by me lol

        • Link

I think having wash-care tags will help your customers! Especially because then you can refer to it if there are vehement customer complaints about things. nods

I think because I'm not online all the time that I miss some updates and get others--so they're probably more of shock to me than if I got regular updates! XD
