Spring art trades, anyone? by Sparkyopteryx

After I finish up the last of my commissions I'd like to take a couple of art trades. I've actually been up for trades for a while now but I haven't seriously considered posting about it until now. I want this to be an opportunity to not only have fun with a fellow artist (or two, or three) but to add a little exciting variety to my subjects. I ENCOURAGE you to go through my gallery and find a style or medium you'd really like to receive from me! I suppose I should list what exactly I'd want in return or what to expect. Also make sure to tell me some things you might be interested in getting that I didn't include in the list:

~~ Traditional art. I really have nothing against digital, this is just what I prefer. NOTE: I fully intend to send you the physical copy, so please be willing and able to send your half as well! I'm in the U.S., for reference.

~~ Finished works. I'm not terribly into simple sketches this time around guys, sorry. As for size I was thinking anywhere between 8.5x11 to 9x12, although if you wanted to be adventurous I could also manage an 11x14 piece. It doesn't have to be fully colored with a detailed background, but as far as detail and amount of effort I'd go with something like this & this or this. Obviously we'll be working out the particulars a bit.

~~ Character/Creature design trades. I'm a tad picky about designs (and I know a lot of others are too) sometimes but I also know this can be a lot of fun. As far as an expected finished product it would come out to something like a very simple but detailed and colored 1-page reference sheet like this or this. We could even make a fun game or creative opportunity, like listing three themes, colors, animals, or whatnot for a springboard and go nuts (I work best like that, even)!

~~ Portraits. Boy do I love doing detailed character/creature/animal portraits! I also love receiving them, so if this kind of theme is your particular fancy, I'd love to do these. Some examples of portraits I normally do: this & this.

~~ ATCs. This isn't actually my first choice, but I'd still love to do some regardless if that is what you'd like to do.

~~ Free-association subjects. It's entirely possible I won't want art of my characters but possibly a subject you'll have fun doing instead, like coming up with an interesting gryphon combo or a particular animal species for instance, or even a theme and then just running with it. These can turn out pretty awesome.

~~ I will still consider digital art if you'd be willing to print out a high-res image of it and send it to me in place of a traditional piece (my printer is sub-par in this regard).

~~ Jewelry and crafts. I don't do this sort of stuff but I'd love to receive something like this if you want a piece of art from me in return.

With the above in mind, these are things that I will NOT do and will not ask for in return (NOTE: there might be other things that I won't do that I haven't thought of, so make sure to ask if you aren't sure.):

~~Explicit art of any kind (not just sexual themes either, this also applies to heavy drug use or gratuitous amounts of gore). I could manage a pinup-style piece with artistic nudity though (I have fun with those) but it would have to have a Moderate (unless of course it's a shirtless female, then it's Explicit anyway but that isn't the point) tag at worst.

~~ I don't do things like Sonic characters or MLP. Sorry, not my thing at all.

~~ Reference sheets. I may consider under special circumstances or if you have a certain specialty for them, I just find them a hassle, plus my references are usually at least a couple pages.

I know a lot of artists work slower (or faster) than others, so I'd really like to keep in touch during the trade process. I won't hound you about it and I fully expect this might take a while, but if things come up or you can't work on your half for a while during it PLEASE make sure to tell me so I know! I don't want to work hard on this and start to think something is up after you don't say anything for several months on end, heh. I fully intend on keeping you posted about my half after all so all I ask is you afford me the same courtesy. Also, please don't take it personal if I end up not trading with you! It's not because I hate your art or because I don't want to work with you, most likely it's because I may already have a few trades I agreed to first, or that it might not be what I want at that moment in time (but I may still contact you later about one regardless).

That being said, as I mentioned I want this to be a fun and inspiring venture, not some kind of chore. If for whatever reason you find you don't want to do this (before you've started the piece, of course) or you suddenly don't have enough time or whatever to do your half then please tell me so. I'm sure I will understand! Also with that in mind, don't take up a trade if you already have a rather full workload, but if you're free at a later date we can still do one! I'll pretty much be open for trades all the time unless I mention otherwise.

Whew, I'm pretty sure that text wall covers everything, but don't hesitate to bombard me with questions (relevant ones, you sillies). I hope I don't seem imposing or offputting; I'm actually quite a pleasant and easy to work with person in general. You can either comment here for your initial interest or note me right off the bat. Your choice.

I hope to hear from you guys and thank you all for your time.

~~C.M.H.

Dito what I said on FA! I like your stuff, a trade would be fun!

I'd certainly be up for one with you, especially since I absolutely adore your art! You can go ahead and note me whenever you want on here so we can start talking about details; I check this place as regularly (or even more so) than FA these days.

    AWH JEEZE! I can't really resist this. I don't even know. ;n;

I'm so bad with trades. Equally as bad with the pickings and the choosings too! >x>

I'd actually be pretty interested in a trade with ya, despite you doing all digital (as I said in the journal, would you be willing to print it out and send it?). I think your work is great and I've got a few characters of mine that would suit your style nicely...

Sadly I don't think I have a way of printing. No working printer. :/

Gah! Dammit. Well perhaps we will think of something; I may be able to get a good print of your half as long as the finished product is of decent resolution. If you're still seriously considering a trade we could iron out the details in a note.

Yea we could. Send me a note or something and I'll check it out when I get up tomorrow.

I would really love to see another character done in your style. Maybe even Bebop. :P

Still remember that picture you did for me of my character Rei.

Sure thing, although I'll be hitting the rack soon so I might not be getting around to it till tomorrow morning.

Any relevant characters I may ask you to draw I may have to make proper references of! That's no problem for me though.

I still have that picture in my FA scraps section, heh. That was a long damn time ago. I draw canines a lot better now! XD
