Third and final commission for Teiirka featuring my hedge witch unicorn Selvamille. Like with the other two, I had only very rough and minor guidelines and had full freedom to develop it. The funny thing is I've been wanting to do a piece like this with her in it for quite some time, even before I was commissioned to draw her so I figured this was as good as an opportunity as any. Heavily inspired by the Art Noveau movement and the works of Alphonse Mucha. I couldn't begin to match his talent and skill, but I'm giving him a humble nod through this piece regardless. The background and general setting is also greatly inspired by the incredible organism known as "The Angel Oak," a tree of mighty proportions and unsettling beauty; I was lucky enough to able to see first-hand and up close some years ago in South Carolina. Photos can barely capture what it's like to be under that canopy, but here it is for those of you curious.
Being commissioned to draw one of my own personal characters has been interesting for me. I look back and I realize that these three pieces have given me an opportunity to portray Sel's character and personality to such an enormous extent. I don't think I'd be able to create three fully detailed and completed pieces in a row like this of one of my characters (unless I had inspiration and drive that far surpasses anything I've ever had) with no outside motivation. I loved working on every one of them.
Done with graphite and a couple Derwent Coloursoft pencils on natural white Strathmore sketch paper. Art is mine and copyright is jointly owned by both the commissioner and myself.
Awh gaw... This is just fantastic! Everything is so soft looking!
I really enjoy the bits like the mane and tail being hidden by the borders as well as
parts passing in front of it.
I enjoy this!
Yeah I made an effort to keep the graphite well-blended and lighter than some of my more "realistic" stuff. Figuring out how to do the stylistic effects was a lot of fun, actually.
I want to do an entire series of Art Noveau stuff; maybe video game inspired subjects? I could totally imagine this kind of style with say, Metroid or Zelda. lol

It appears the wind in the picture has blown away all of my pretty little words.
