Sparkyopteryx

First Celtic-inspired commission done for Tamuross on FA (I dunno whether he has a Weasyl or not yet...). Translating this character into a theme like this was tricky but worth the effort! Just look at that hair; it reminds me of stylized flames almost. There's a really nice border all around it, but since my scanner is a bit too small for this paper, I had to cut off most of it sadly.

I am currently still open for these Celtic-style commissions, but slots may become limited soon! All details can be found in this journal here.

Done with Tombow pens, Prismacolor markers, Staedtler pigment liners, Stabilo pens and a little bit of colored pencil on 9x12 smooth bristol. Art is mine, character is property of the owner and copyright is jointly owned by myself and the commissioner.

These Celtic isnpired/style peices are very cool! The only critique, if you don't mind, is my Medieval geek comeing out and saying that the Celtic style should always hve thick black lines around the design...but that is a purist Celtic art thing! These are very cool as I said!

Ha, nothing wrong with being a purist; I can agree with you on the lines, that's for sure. I do that when I'm trying to be more traditionalist, but it's awfully hard to be traditional when I'm working with such non-traditional creatures and characters! XD These are more myself putting my own modern artistic spin on old Celtic folkart; I strive to be mostly faithful to the source material, but occasionally I have to break the mold a little. Regardless, thank you for the kind words!

I think this guy is pretty damn cool, I love how he's got such a razor edge of good looks.

Haha, yeah; I try to make the motif and color/texture choices somewhat reflect the characters in these pieces.
