Sparkyopteryx

Despite it being a series of concepts, since we were able to pin down is look easily this also makes an excellent reference sheet for him. Did these back in February when the fiance wanted to develop a counterpart to my primordial dragon here. As with a lot of our characters and concept stuff, his creation was somewhat of a group effort. His race of Elder dragon has since become part of my Alteir setting.

Bits of info for him and his species:
~His overall designation is an Elder dragon, which means he is of the second generation of dragons (the first are called Primordials, such as his mate Venya). His species specifically is called by a few different names depending on the race and culture, the most common being Astral dragon, Sun dragon or Light dragon. Being an Elder dragon means he is more closely linked to cycles of magic and "pure blooded," which is just a step down from being a true progenitor of the dragon races as a whole.
~That being said, he is actually very young. By Astral dragon standards of course; he's a century or so shy of 2,000.
~He is built to hunt aquatic megafauna such as devil eels, sea serpents and megalodon. His hooked teeth and curved thumb claws are adapted to latch onto slippery, elusive prey such as these, and he swallows most of his prey whole.
~Like all true dragons, he has a breath weapon. Unlike the former though, he does not "breathe" to create it. It is a beam of pure, concentrated light energy that originates from that orb inside his horns. The orb on his tail however cannot make these beams, but sheds light all the same.
~A rare number of dragons have a secondary, corollary breath weapon. In this case, Astral dragons can also create a powerful "black hole" effect inside their circular horns that can utterly destroy a foe given the dragon is willing to concentrate on them long enough. There is a 10% chance that they are not destroyed but instead are plane shifted...

My partner was inspired heavily by outer space phenomena when he created him, especially quasars; his colors reflect this somewhat. I was also inspired by various aquatic predators when I was first putting his design to paper, especially eels. Naturally since this was primarily for concept and reference, it isn't terribly fancy, and I apologize for my handwriting haha.

The land of Alteir and all related setting stuff is mine, while the character belongs to mistermidnight

I absolutely love this, this design is one of my favorites we've ever created. I don't know what else to say about it, other than to continue to wax on about how special the design and philosophy wrapped up in it is so amazing to me.
