Varsoovenya Compiled Reference

Sparkyopteryx

I'm almost done with my catch-up uploading, I promise! This is a compiled three-page reference of a new character of mine when I finally had the wild hair to develop a proper dragon persona...thing (not that Quinrothee isn't a proper dragon in her own right). The thing about me and dragons is that I hate most of the dragon designs I come up with and therefore scrap most of them, but she is one of the first exceptions to this rule in a very long time. There is quite a lot of personal symbolism and symmetry in 'Venya here, and she will be used as the occasional reminder to myself to seek solace in the wisdom of the Druids and the beauty of nature.

Some factoids about her:

~ Her origins are ancient and are inspired by the old Celtic tales of the Tuatha De Danaan and their conflict with the Formorians. At some point I'll be writing up her bio...

~ She is purportedly the only remaining one of her particular draconic race, the name of which is lost even to her.

~ Is a practicing Druid and teacher of old and forgotten knowledge. She has a vast repository of lore from so many thousands of years but sadly she has a very bad memory. She generally needs to meditate for days or even weeks on end to retrieve a piece of information if it's locked away, and even then she must be directly reminded of it. She regularly employs bards and other loremasters to help her keep her stores straight.

~ Despite her immense size and awesome power, she is actually incredibly gentle and will not even do harm even when under attack. She will either leave the vicinity, deal with the attacker through nonlethal means or find a clever way to circumvent a threat instead. However if she decides to fight back it is for a good reason and an almost sure guarantee the opposing force will lose...

~ Is a consummate shapeshifter. Some of her favorite forms are that of an immense moss-covered boar, a horse, an eagle or an elderly-looking oak elf woman.

I'll also be submitting the center page as a separate submission in scraps, since there are a lot of little details that are hard to pick out in this version. Done with Prismacolor markers, Staedtler pigment liners and a Pilot Fineliner in my sketchbook. Character and art belong to myself.

I'm going to go ahead and say she might just be one of my favorite dragons of all time; I love oak leaves afterall and everything about her is just so awesome.
