Der Schwarzwald - Sketch by Windfalcon

Der Schwarzwald - Sketch

Windfalcon

A sketch for an upcoming painting. Every so often I'll have a dream of a deep, giant forest, which I suppose I've attributed in my mind to the Black Forest in Germany. Which, I will also be frolicking through come this August during my trip to Eurofurence :3 It will be an EF/Germany trip where I'll finally be able to see this forest I know only in name.

It is very educational to see your sketch, and as lovely as it is I already know when you paint it it will be SO much better! You do such great detail!

I'm in awe of your paintings for sure, but there's this beautiful, organic something about the quality of your pencils. Hell I'd be the type to buy a print of an under-sketch like this I love it so much. I'm reminded of that heady, coniferous aroma whenever we go camping up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, one of the best smells in existence.

I LOVE that smell. There's a reservoir with a pine forest where I hike and on warm days you step into it and you can just smell the blanket of pine needles. It's the best smell.

This already looks amazing—thank you for sharing!

And have fun in Germany/Eurofurence! I had a wonderful time the year I went and also highly recommend the Tiergarten. :)

I'm studying German with hopes of being able to speak a little, and I'm guessing the Tiergarten is a zoo? :D The German language is very well structured with its nouns sometimes!

        "Sometimes" is right!

Berlin does have a zoo, but it is called the Zoologischer Garten Berlin. The Großer Tiergarten is this GIANT PARK just west of the Brandenburg Gate. It sits right on top of the zoo and contains lots of bike/ped trails, cool statues and other monuments, including the Siegesäule (Victory Column). Great place for exercising/birdwatching! True fact: when I was there for EF 2014 I ran into Ursula and Kevin birding in the Tiergarten. Was really funny: one minute biking through park in Berlin full of strangers, then… WAIT I KNOW YOU. XD

Anyway, you can totally rent a bicycle from the Estrel (something like 10 euros for 24 hrs) and ride to it from the hotel along residential streets/canal paths. It was really awesome.

I didn't get into the zoo but I heard it well spoken of by those who did go. :)

Very charming! This is already such an amazing sketch, so I'm excited to see how the final painting will turn out.
