It is done. An idea that has been lingering in my head for months now, finally realized on paper. I don't think I could be any happier about it, other than I wish the scanner didn't make some of the darker graphite texture slightly choppy.
This is a piece that is an anti-companion of a sorts to Faraday. This one especially is rife with symbolism and drama. I'll leave individual interpretation up to you, but I can confirm it some of it at least has connotations in secret police, conspiracy and various other dystopian themes. It will also be for sale at the BLFC art show.
Done on Strathmore drawing paper using graphite pencils and a bit of Derwent colored pencils here and there. 6''x12''.
This is fantastic, you well-captured the sort of power and intimidation these types of individuals embody. With their mere presence you are made aware of who is at the top. Just as well, you are aware that the full weight of the pyramid can easily be brought to bear.
And yet, one builds their own prisons. And ties their own noose.
Looks very much like a Metropolis inspired piece. The Art Deco elements do it for me, the future of the past.
Exquisite and overtly finespun! Definitely nice to see this in a finished form as it further emphasizes, under a more elegant and visually delectable form, the display of raw, subliminally domineering power that this work evokes, inside me at least.
Beautiful, as I first said it is! Even more beautiful now.
Also, I cannot help but find that tie similar to a noose. I am struggling to see whether it is my mind only, or if it was intentional actually.
Thank you once again Eduard. As I said in my reply to your comment in the preliminary sketch, the finished product definitely drives home the iconography, symbolism and mood I was trying to invoke.
Haha no, you are not seeing things this time. A bit of subtle morbid humor on my part. Mister Midnight above me put it perfectly: "And yet, one builds their own prisons. And ties their own noose."
