So I'm doing a randomized Pokemon X/Y Soul Link Nuzlocke with Spottyjaguar and I'm responsible for our first loss because I forgot that horde encounters were a thing 😔

Nuzlocke Rules:

  • only the first wild Pokemon encountered in a route or area can be caught. If the player fails to catch it (ie. it flees or faints), their opportunity to catch a Pokemon in that area is lost
  • the player must nickname all Pokemon they catch or obtain
  • any Pokemon that faints must be released or boxed permanently. It is considered "dead" for the rest of the challenge

Soul Link Rules:

  • two players play through the same game simultaneously
  • encounters for players on each route are linked. If one player fails to catch their encounter for a route, the other player must box or release their encounter for that route as well. If both players successfully catch their first encounter for that route, those two Pokemon are "linked" as partners
  • linked Pokemon will have the same nicknames as one another
  • when one player's Pokemon faints, its partner on the other player's team must be boxed or released as well
  • if a Pokemon is placed in the PC, its partner on the other player's team must be placed in the PC as well
  • it's common to randomize the encounters on each route for this challenge, to promote greater Pokemon and type variety between the teams, especially on early routes where Pokemon selection is limited

It’s been forever since I played X/Y…….I don’t even remember Horde Encounters. @_@

I hope you guys can recover from this loss!!!!

Yup I totally forgot about them too! They were only Lv5 so I would've been fine... if Buizel didn't know Sonic Boom, which does 20 points of damage, no matter what.

      Haha thank you but uh. I lost another to the exact same horde because I forgot about the Sonic Boom \o/;;;

I know another thing I forgot about until someone mentioned it—triple battles from B/W 1-2. Oh, yeah—I remember how awkward THOSE were, probably why GameFreak has never used THAT again! XD

Yeah, a horde fight like that—you’d better have a Pokémon that knows a reliable spread technique like Sonic Boom. I think Swift can also do a reliable multi-hit, too.

Oh god I forgot about those too. Absolutely awful haha!

Yeah and since I'm doing a randomizer nuzlocke with only one gym badge under my belt.... I don't have the best variety for Pokemon right now. I should've just ran orz

I don't think I had any enjoyment in triple battles whatsoever. XD

I should try doing a nuzlocke run someday--I've never actually done one myself, especially as I'm the type to spend hours in fields levelling up my Pokemon. For FUN. XD I wonder how I'd fare at it? I do know I never let go of my Starter Pokemon--it's a 100% full-time member of my party no matter what game I play--I think I'd cry if I lost that guy in a nuzlocke campaign. chuckle

I'd likely do it in HeartGold, though--as that's my one game I've restarted numerous times for fun, most of my other games are still in various stages of gameplay, since...........you know, spending hours in fields levelling up for fun. XD

I also like grinding levels for fun! It's good for my ADHD I think. But yeah, Nuzlockes aren't for the faint of heart, but you could always give it a go and if the self-imposed rules don't mesh with your enjoyment, you can change them or bend them and no one's going to tell you you're wrong for enjoying a children's game the "wrong" way x)

I still haven't gotten the last Gym badge in my ORIGINAL "Diamond" game, because I was trying to get ALL my Pokemon that I could to level 50, for use in the Wii "Battle Revolution" game. I still haven't managed to do that yet and that game came out WHEN??? Long enough that we have a remake now........ XD That said--I do actually have a COMPLETE PokeDex in my Diamond game, via trades and the in-store events that occurred way back when.........of course that was a smaller PokeDex than it is now! XD It's also my only game with a fully complete PokeDex.........

Level grinding is one of my ways to relax, it just saddens me how GameFreak removed the "Pokemon grants XXX amount of XP" to.........the higher your level, the less EXP you'll get from said wild Pokemon. It's designed to stop you from level grinding in any one given field for too long a time. I miss the days when you KNEW that Graveller was going to give you 345XP every single time--you could better know when you'd level up that way. Scaled EXP I find to be frustrating, on a personal feeling. chuckle

Of course..........I'm also that nerd who has two of all those handheld systems (and buys both versions) in order to do trades with myself when I can't with other people. XD
