Dissasembly Line - Theme of the Slaughterhouse (Oct 13 2011) (critique requested)

SF

Theme for the secret epilogue area of my indie game project Skye the Streamertail. The area is a stark juxtaposition to the upbeat mascot-platformer vibe the rest of the game has, and will hopefully serve to sew up the deconstruction once you see it in its intended context. Note the reprisals of the game's main themes.

"After passing through the stunning tank, the birds' throats are slashed, usually by a mechanical blade, and blood begins rushing out of their bodies. Inevitably, the blade misses some birds who then proceed to the next station on the assembly line: the scalding tank. Here they are submerged in boiling hot water. Birds missed by the killing blade are boiled alive. This occurs so commonly, affecting millions of birds every year, that the industry has a term for these birds. They are called "redskins". According to Virgil Butler, a former Tyson slaughterhouse worker, "When this happens, the chickens flop, scream, kick, and their eyeballs pop out of their heads. Then, they often come out the other end with broken bones and disfigured and missing body parts because they've struggled so much in the tank."

Food for thought.

that's.. really messed up and dark..

I like the music, though I feel like there should be some screams, maybe a little crying in the background at certain points. Give it that... scary, emotional feeling. Still great none the less.

And the "joke" is going to be that this isn't even a horror game right up until the epilogue.

I actually did have more screams in it at one point, there are some still in there in fact (all those pig-squeal-like sounds are actually processed human vocals if you can believe it). I toned it down a bit because this already runs a really heavy risk of laying it on pretty thick. I imagine it's already going to scare a bunch of people off the game as it is.

      And thanks!

interesting. Don't be surprised that if more screams and a more horror like themes would pull in more "customers". People like being scared, or feeling a sense of worry when playing certain games. I like the track as is, and I think it sounds fantastic. I would just be curious to hear an alternate version with more "horror" involved.

Keep in mind this is meant to be used alongside gameplay where there will be a tonne of atmospheric noise (bonesaws, boiling vats, screams that aren't part of the music, not to mention all of the actual gameplay sfx) so if anything I might need to tone it down further.

I hope you're right about people actually wanting it because it'd be quite the dramatic way to shoot myself in the foot haha.

Yeah, you're right. I haven't thought of that. SFX from the game itself would add to the atmosphere.

There's that new furry game coming out that's suppose to be horror. so many are looking froward to it ^^ so I'm sure people wouldn't mind or would love it.
