"You're hurting me..."
In one of Gerald Gardner's political humor photo-caption books, probably Who's in Charge Here, there was a stock photo of some politician pinning their campaign button onto a teddy bear. Gardner put a balloon on the bear that said, well, what I wrote above. Political humor was a lot gentler in the early 1960s...-
