Glass Ceilings

I may not write about them often but Angela (Bunnus Biggus) and Felicia (Kitty Cutie) hold a special place in my heart given their setting and characters! While they tend to be a bit more grounded than most this big bun photographer and kitty coworker/boss do get up to their fair share of shenanigans!

Absolutely amazing art by Lydemox!

"Would you relax?" Felicia dismissively mrowled. Tail flitting behind her, the black cat's high heels clacked with power and purpose against the sidewalk.

"What else am I supposed to think? Here you are all..." Angela's button nose wrinkled as she defensively, and uncharacteristically, crossed her arms about her chest. "All dolled up and meeting with friggin' vulture capitalists!"

Shaking her head side to side, Felicia casually batted back at the auburn locks of hair cascading along her shoulders. "To tell them off. Angela, you act like this is the first time I've rubbed elbows with these kinds of people."

Brows raised, Angela's jaw hung slack. "That's... because it is?"

Felicia couldn't help but giggle. "So long as you've been here, maybe. This is like... the third maybe fourth time?"

The looming lagomorph pinched her hands beneath her armpits. Trembling, she struggled to resist the urge to swing her arms out to the side and violently gesticulate. "This is my job we're talking about here!" her window rattling voice yelled.

Rolling her shoulders, the feline straighted her posture and locked her gaze dead ahead. "You don't think I've seen what they've done? How many newsrooms they've bought up and gutted in their short sighted and psychopathic need for profit?"

Angela quietly padded along the broad and uneven city streets. She could feel the asphalt mold to the contours of her digits and depress beneath her tonnage. Much like it did for the rest of the city's ever increasing giant population.

"I'm obligated to hear them out," Felicia sighed. "Just like I am at every other conference I'm expected to attend. Least this one's only for the afternoon."

The rabbit's ears burned as she took to rubbing her hands along her forearms. "Oh.”

Felicia relaxed her expression and allowed her facade to fade. "If I wanted to sell out I already would have. You do know that, right?"

"I mean-" The rabbit stammered as her unfounded fears about her job prospects all but evaporated. "You could have said something..." she trailed off with a huff.

"And have the exact same conversation then as we are now? Be honest, Angela. There's nothing I could have said that wouldn't have made you worry."

Teeth clenched, Angela pressed her eyes against the sides of their sockets. "Sorry," she forced out. A prolonged silence, punctuated by her muted footfalls, filled the air. With a groan, she proceeded to puncture it. "And... you're not dolled up. You actually look really cute," Angela mumbled with her cheeks, black furred and mercifully masking her blush, puffed out.

"Damn right I do," Felicia snickered while she reached out to gently bap at a white furred ankle. "So, as your boss, trust me on this. I wouldn't be a very good one if I didn't look after my sole employee, would I?"

Hands shoved into her hoodie's pockets, Angela reluctantly cracked a subtle smile. "Alright, alright. You uh... umm..." She bobbed back and forth on the balls of her feet as she worked up the courage to ask. "I was planning to, you know, grapple with my expected unemployment by picking a fight with ol' Jackrabbit Daniels..."

"God yes I'll need a drink after this," the feline laughed back. "If I'm lucky this'll wrap up around 6 or so. See you then?" Felicia called back as she disappeared into a revolving door.

Nerves still raw, Angela tucked her chin against her chest and tentatively regarded her own reflection within the glass covered skyscraper before her. "It's a date," she wordlessly mouthed. Angela promptly exhaled, letting go of a long held breath, and repeatedly slapped a hand against her cheeks. "What the hell am I thinking?" The rabbit trailed off with a groan as she took to wandering the winding city streets.

"You have to understand-"

"Uh huh," Felicia replied with obvious disinterest. Journalists and executives alike milled about the tables clogging the uppermost floor of the skyscraper. Muted sunlight filtered in through the polished pane of glass serving as their roof.

"The technology just keeps getting cheaper and cheaper. Smaller and smaller. Drones are the way of the future! There's no picture that photographer of yours can snap that they couldn't." Clad in a sport suit jacket, poorly fitted to his lanky frame, the wolf continued to press his point.

"Our subscriptions have risen since Angela's hiring. That, paired with our refocus to report on stories with the perspectives of people of all sizes in mind, isn't a winning strategy we plan to abandon any time soon," the feline tersely answered as she sipped at her complimentary drink. Felicia's gaze drifted to the clock hands just barely visible within the periphery of her vision.

The wolf tutted. "And even then I bet you're just barely pulling in a profit. Cutting costs is the only way you'll-"

Felicia forced a subdued smile. Even after all the presentations, all the speeches, and all the hobnobbing the clock just barely struck 5?! Her tail went limp at the thought.

Just outside, Angela sighed as time passed just as slowly on her end. Van sized phone in hand, her fuzzy fingers swiped aimlessly at its scratched surface. Tab after tab after tab in her mobile browser sailed by while her eyes glazed over. “Guess it couldn’t hurt...” Angela thought as she popped open her texts and typed up a message.

Felicia's purse, slung over her shoulder, buzzed and rumbled noisily. Oh thank God. "Sorry to interrupt but could you excuse me while I take this?" Before the wolf could even respond, Felicia disengaged the conversation for him as she fished out her phone.

Angela (Work): "how u holding up?"

The feline couldn't help but smile at the lifeline thrown her way. She hurriedly papped out a response.

Angela's ears perked at the prompt reply.

Felicia (:3): "Happy hour can't come soon enough."

Angela (Work): "that bad?"

Felicia (:3): "That bad."

Angela (Work): "oof"

Her attention all but consumed by her conversation, Angela came to rest her arms, and bosom, on the roof of the nearest structure. Its flat and sun warmed surface proved surprisingly comfortable.

Darkness enveloped Felicia. Worried whispers, alongside snickers and catcalls, sounded out within the darkened conference room as everyone ogled the sun blotting pair of bunny breasts, clad in a carrot patterned shirt, pressed flat against the glass.

Angela (Work): "also about me yelling earlier"

Felicia (:3): "Uhhhh Angela?"

Angela (Work): "yeah?"

Felicia (:3): "Could you please calm your tits?"

The rabbit arched a brow and snickered.

Angela (Work): "language! "

CRKK

Murmured hints of panic swept over everyone gathered as spidering cracks spread throughout the sun turned bun roof.

Angela (Work): "but seriously i am calm! just wanted to apologize"

Felicia (:3): "ANGELA CLAM YOUR TOTS"

Shards of glass rained down from the ceiling to a cacophonous orchestra of shrieks. The looming lagomorph's eyes went wide when she suddenly felt her chest drop out from under her.

Felicia (:3): "ANGLEA YOUR TITS!!!"

"AWW FUCK!" Angela bellowed. Rearing back, she all but spontaneously burst alight with embarrassment at the bosom shaped indents and cracks left in the bowed in roof.

Angela (Work): "ohmyfodfelixiaimsosorry"

Angela (Work): "shit"

Angela (Work): "shit shit shit"

Angela (Work): "are gou oaky??????"

Bumping shoulders among the packed tight stairwell, Felicia fumbled for her phone and any semblance of a silver lining.

Felicia (:3): "You got me out of there early at least."

Angela (Work): "im sorry im sorry im sorey"

Felicia (:3): "Not quite how I would have broken that fabled glass ceiling but hey points for creativity."

Angela (Work): "djusjshss"

And deep down, I wonder if they're thinking that it was a good idea for the big rabbit to 'hop by' in the first place.
