Your color lay on the bird looks really great--it has a more "natural" look to it. :)

It was so hard to get him to look right cos I kept mixing colours too dark and then I would try to layer the lights and darks and they mixed a bit and got muddy and then I would hafta come back over it later like >.> stoopid paint not doing what my brain says it should lol

I feel that! @_@ There are so many things I start where I see it in my head, but the real application goes way off the beaten path! XD

This guy still looks really pretty though! :)

The jelly gouache are pretty good for water colouring but I am not that good with doing washes and building them, I always end up just going the oil paint route and slapping it down chunky lol gotta learn some self control

I know I get impatient for things to dry--which is probably why I prefer just doing lineart inkings. Trying all the various watercolor mediums lately have helped me slow down and be a little more patient with artwork. I'm also trying to do my pencils with more detail than I did in the past--I would do basic lines that barely shaped anything. But I got some colored leads for my mechanical pencils recently, so I'm doing the simple lines with those and building bases more with a regular pencil lead before inking.

Of course.........the colored leads break so easily, so I have to be super careful. One of my blue ones, I think I broke more of the lead by pressing to hard than for use of actually drawing with it. XD I'm very heavy-handed, even with sketches...........

I didn't know you could get coloured mechanical pencil leads.

My sketches are usually very faint chicken scratch that unless you understand my sketch methods it looks like nothing which can also be a problem because when using my paints they tend to wash out the sketch.

Some are better than others—I had some orange ones that were fantastic, but I couldn’t find the brand again. So I got this new brand that came in a set of 8 colors—some of the leads seem stronger than others. The pink and blue are fragile, but purple and red are stronger.

I started trying to do better with sketches and details by using colored mechanical pencil and regular pencil before inking. Also, resorting to using my light box if I want to redraw the thing because of too many sketch mistakes. I used to do just simple circles and shapes, then ink, but I’ve noticed doing more detailed sketching before inking has made things a little bit better—especially as I’m trying to draw more Transformers to illustrate my fan-fics! XD
