A short scene from the same setting as my main story:

"Well brother, I think everything's set." Plectin stepped back.
Standing in front of the Brown Dragonkin was what could almost be another Dragonkin. Only that it was made of a combination of synthetic plastics and metal. Nevertheless, it had all the theoretical essential functions of the body. A theoretical synthetic body that could serve as a replacement for an actual one. Of course, it did lack a brain, and a soul if one had beliefs in that.
"I'm ready as well." Desmin nodded.
The pair were twins, a rarer case of Dragonkin having hatched from the same egg. While it was difficult to tell them apart at the start, Desmin, the elder, was the one with blue eyes, while his younger brother's were red.
"R87, you've completed all the uploads to your databases?" Desmin asked the lab's artificial intelligence.
"Records of you and your brother's alchemic work and the index of the available alchemic and transmutation literature." The AI responded. "However, based on the data of previous literature, I must advice caution in what Masters Desmin and Plectin are attempting to proceed with. No previous data exists for such an experiment."
"You can tell us that once we're done with this." Desmin powered down the AI and removed a chip, inserting it into a slot at the head of the synthetic.
"So again, we're going to transmute this synthetic into living flesh?" Plectin glanced down at the alchemic circle he had drawn around the synthetic body.
"Transmutation has worked on flesh to inanimate and back. We're just doing it in reverse. And giving it some guidance from ourselves." Desmin placed the samples of their blood and scales in the alchemic circle.
"And we've stuck a copy of our AI in there, just to test it out?"
"I don't expect that part to work, but it's for the records. Let's get started."
The brothers moved to opposite sides of the circle and begun channeling.

Desmin was lost in the darkness of the void. All around was blackness, with little sense of gravity or direction.
No! No! This wasn't what I intended!
"Plectin! Where are you?"
"Over here!" Plectin's form was visible across the area.
Desmin somehow propelled himself forward in the void, attempting to get to his brother. Then, he stopped short.
Hovering way above them was the synthetic body. But there was something different about it. It almost seemed to have scales? Yes, brown scales. Just like his own.
Desmin felt a tingling in his hand. He brought a claw up to his face…and stared in horror.
He watched as the scales and flesh literally disintegrated, leaving the bone exposed. Desmin didn't even have time to comprehend that before the bone disintegrated as well. And the process was creeping up his other arm and legs.
"No! No! How do we stop this?" Plectin howled in terror as he was subjected to the same process.
The process didn't stop with disintegrating their limbs, and continued up to the rest of their bodies.
"I don't know! Plectin, we…rargh…" Desmin's words were cut off as he realized his lungs were gone.
He begun to feel a chocking feeling, as all that was left was now his head…

"Hey…Hey…please, wake up."
"Ugh…"
The voice was oddly familiar, yet Desmin couldn't place a solid confirmation on it. What he next felt was that he was breathing again. After that was the realization that his neck felt odd, very much longer than normal.
And he couldn't feel anything below that.
Desmin's eyes snapped open. Staring at him was a face very much like his own. But it wasn't Plectin either. It was one with a green pair of eyes, which neither of them had.
"You're awake." The different head said slowly. "I'm not sure, but I think you created me."
Desmin looked down. Both their heads had long extended necks, which connected to the same Dragonkin-like body. And there was another head too, peeking around.
"Plectin?"
"Desmin! What…what are we?" Plectin stammered. "I…I can't feel anything below my neck!"
A quick glance showed they were back in their laboratory. Only now that there was something missing…the synthetic body they'd been experimenting on.
"It seems I can." The third head spoke.
Desmin felt an odd jerk as the body his head was connected to stood up. Yet, he had no control over it.
"We're merged." Plectin remarked. "Like a hydra or something. Hydrakin."
"Hydrakin have been artificially created by merging living bodies by magic or science, but never from a synthetic base." The third head commented.
"Wait, R87? Is that you?" Desmin gasped. "Are we in the synthetic body?"
"No, I don't think I'm your AI." The third head shook. "I don't think we're synthetic either."
The right hand of their body touched the chest.
"We have a heartbeat. We're breathing. The synthetic body would have automated these processes."
"You're right, I can actually hear the heartbeat." Desmin muttered. "The literature has always recorded Hydrakin having much enhanced senses of hearing and smell."
"Desmin, what are we going to do?" Plectin cried. "What exactly happened? Are we stuck like this?"
"Apparently our experiment worked, but not in the way we intended." Desmin realized. He turned to the third head. "So, would you help us with this? It seems that you are now the main body. We're just the extra heads."
"Whatever I can do to help." He nodded. "I…I can recall some things about you two. I think I might share some of your memories."
"But you can't recall all of data we uploaded into R87 before this?"
"No, I'm sorry."
"He's like a new brother to us." Plectin nodded his head. "So this means I'm not the 'little brother' anymore?"
"I guess I sort of am…"
"Let's name him, otherwise it'll be weirder than it already is." Plectin would've put a finger to his chin if he still control of his hands. He had to settle for squinching his eyebrows. "How about Vimentin? To fit along with the theme."
"Vimentin…I like that." His eyes gleamed.
"Well, Vimentin, let's start from some basics." Desmin nodded. "Let's figure out how we'll work with this new body…"
