My grandfather passed away last month and I wanted to do something in remembrance of him. He was a purple heart WWII veteran so I found it fitting to try and paint him in his younger days in his military uniform. He was always very proud of being a veteran. Only had one small BW photo of him, so I hope I did him justice.
Yeah, those guys were special. I've got some amazing photos and stories from my father and uncles of that war.
Well done. Both my grandfathers served. My maternal in the Pacific theater and my fraternal in the European theater. Never met my maternal grandfather. He died of a brain aneurism when my mother was 4. My 90-something-year-old neighbor is also a WWII vet. As his veteran plate is "Sicily", it's kind of obvious where he was.
Thanks.
Mine went through Belgium. He got wounded by a grenade in the Ardennes and he was sent home and later received a purple heart. He still had metal in his shoulder and hip as they couldn't remove it all. He told some great stories. Last year he finally got to see the war memorials in DC with Honor Flight, I'm glad he did before he passed. He was super excited about it and it's funny to see a 90 year old man all giddy about taking a trip. He was a boy again for a short while. haha
