Strawberry B^3 Grilled Cheese by KajTaotsu

Strawberry B^3 Grilled Cheese

Found this incredible food blog a while back and had my curiosity piqued at the mention of strawberries being used in a grilled cheese. Never really experimenting much before with such a simple sandwich, this was an eye opener at how easy it is to make something so easy into almost anything.

Strawberry Balsamic, Basil, and Brie Grilled Cheese

Ingredients:

  • butter or margarine (whichever you prefer to spread on bread)
  • french bread, .5-1in slices
  • reduced balsamic vinegar
  • strawberries, sliced
  • fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • brie cheese, sliced thinly
  • salt

Depending on how many sandwiches you want to make, I'm just listing what items you would need to make the sandwich. If you don't have reduced balsamic vinegar, a way to make some will follow the main recipe.

Directions:

1. Set the stove to medium heat, setting a pan on top to heat up.
2. Butter the outside of each slice of bread.
3. Drizzle a small amount of the reduced balsamic onto the inside of the slices.
4. In order, place basil, a layer of brie, sliced strawberry, dash of salt, another layer of brie on bottom piece of bread, covering with the other slice.
5. Fry in pan until golden brown on each side.

How to Reduce Balsamic Vinegar:

Pour about 4x the amount you are needing of balsamic vinegar into a small skillet over medium-high heat. Bring it to a boil and let simmer until its slightly just thinner than you are wanting it to be. Adjust the heat accordingly to make sure it doesn't burn.

A mixture of tang, sweet, creamy, and bitter, this grilled cheese is definitely something for those searching for something adventurous compared to the regular (but still absolutely amazing) grilled cheese sandwich.

Have any left over balsamic vinegar? Use it as a dipping sauce! I love putting some cracked black pepper into it and just dipping toasted bread into the stuff. Try other sandwiches with it drizzled into it, or put it over salad.
