Over at tumblr like half a year ago I mentioned I wanted to make some starters based on my birth Province of Prince Edward Island, Canada.

One night I couldn't really rest so I actually got around to doing that finally! While I go into way more elaborate detail on the creative process over on my blog the basic for this mon is obviously beavers are pretty iconic creatures of Canada as a country. Water type starters tend to be based on semi aquatic animals so wasn't really a hard choice to make. Also this guy is why I went with cow and not rabbit for the fire starter, while lagomorphs aren't the same as rodents they're often mistaken for them so I thought 2 "rodent" starters would be a bit much.
Also as a quick other point as much as I like bibarel quite a bit a lot of folks think it looks dumb so making a cuter more "appealing" beaver Pokemon was a smart concept. We have a fuckload of dog and cat Pokemon so no reason we can have multiple beavers!
As a last quick point as its name suggests the thing on beablet's tail is actually a water drop rather than a bubble. Its not a big distinction to make on a stand alone piece but worth noting if you drew it that thing doesn't "pop" with applied pressure lol.
