Two people are facing several charges after they were caught riding in a vehicle that had stolen car parts and a fake title.
Courtney Latrice Jefferson and Tadarius Guyton have been charged with two counts of theft of property and two counts of vandalism.
Jefferson has also been charged with one count of altering, falsifying, or forging an auto title or plates.
According to an affidavit, in August 2023, a man reported his 2019 Dodge Challenger stolen to the Greenville Police Department. Memphis Police reportedly found the vehicle’s transmission at a chop shop on December 14, 2023, but the rest of the car has not been found.
Court documents say that in November 2023, a man reported to Memphis Police that his 2016 Dodge Charger had been stolen. Memphis Police reportedly found the car on December 27, 2023, but the car had been stripped of all of its parts.
Months later, on February 2, 2024, Guyton and Jefferson were stopped in a black Dodge Charger. According to court documents, at that time, Guyton was taken into custody on several drug and weapons charges.
Officers reportedly checked the vehicle and found a fake title that showed Jefferson as the vehicle’s owner. Court documents say the vehicle was then towed to the City of Memphis impound lot on the suspicion that it may have been stolen.
According to court documents, detectives with the Auto Theft Task Force went to the impound lot and checked the black Dodge Charger again on February 6. Detectives reportedly discovered that several parts from the stolen 2019 Dodge Challenger and stolen 2016 Dodge Charger had been added to the vehicle.
Jefferson was booked into Shelby County Jail Tuesday. Guyton has been booked in the Shelby County Jail since February 2.
