In Flight Meal

Eskiworks

Finished full illustration for Drakonic Knight, of her dragon/thylacine hybrid character taking flight to grab a snack! The bird that's going to be lunch is a diamond firetail finch, thought the red color repetition would look nice (plus they are native to Tasmania). This one was so fun, I've been itching to do a mossy environment forever.

I made an animated work-in-progress gif for this one - Click here!

21.5 hours in Photoshop with an Intuos 3 tablet

[edit] F5 for some minor edits to the wings! I thought the veins were a bit too dark, and I changed the color of the white stripes on the wing to match the red light pouring through.

this is really impressive, I love how you did the skin/ membrane on the wings and how the veins are visible due to the light :)

also I always find it pretty hard to get bent wings right and take a look at dozens of bat photos^^

Thank you so much! I found it a bit hard to come up with the right vein pattern, and how visible they are. I ended up actually toning them down after I uploaded because they stood out too much.

Thank you! This one was really fun, I was so glad I got a good moss painting in this soon. The animated process gif was a blast too, I might have to make more of those. :D

What I love most about this beautiful piece is the perspective you have chosen! Having the wing cover parts of the body and having it be partly translucent due to the light is a great way to get a better feeling of how delicate the skin is on it and overall it clearly adds dynamic and atmosphere! I love the details in this one as well - the veins alone are already just great, but the forest with all that smaller plants included adds to it even more! Very good work!

Aww this looks so great :D

Love the green/red combo xD It fits so well~

It also looks so cool where the light shines through the wings <3
