First of all:
Thank you to Skroy for letting me use the suit and not freaking out on me when I lost its tail and got purple all over it. I love you. I wanna squish your face.
Thank you to Tommy for taking that amazing photo in the thumbnail for this submission.
Thank you to Revit for filming and editing this, and giving me permission to post it around.
And to the dancerfurs who literally changed my life at FWA, :) <3
Yo so here's my dance comp entry from MFF! The suit I'm wearing is called KJ, owned by Skroy. The story behind this is I was just listening to this song in the car one day and started to really, really connect to its message, to the point where I decided I wanted to use it for the dance comp. I realized, though, that the message isn't about ONE PERSON, it's about everyone. It's about taking the shit that life throws at you, and moving through it because there are much better things coming, and to let those little slip ups hold you back is just a waste of time. I realized the message of the song is kind of counter-intuitive to the dance competition atmosphere though. Like, It's ONE PERSON sharing off THEIR SKILLS to be judged by some random group of people against other fantastic and talented dancers. And that just doesn't jive with the message for me.
Then I heard the line, "Don't be afraid to dance, don't be afraid to take a chance..." and it just clicked. I wanted the audience to break their normal cycle of sitting and observing. I wanted them to get up and join in. To inspire them to maybe enter a competition themselves. I just pictured that person who needs a little push, and thought that maybe this could be that for them. I dunno. I was more worried about making sure everyone had a good time than impressing anyone. Even if I didn't come close to winning, people had a smile on their face, and that's more important than anything else in my book, :P
TLDR: I wanted to do something that people would be able to feel like they are a part of, not an observer of, to reflect the message of the song.
"Let me tell you all about my life
Grab a seat, get strapped in tight
You may have heard about an earthquake ride
But these ones happen deep inside
My life is a chain of troubled times
Though each only last a little while
And then when the next one comes along
I'm getting ready to jump, jump, jump
Earthquakey people, jump around
Nothing they can do or say to bring us down
Earthquakey people, jump around
Get ready to shake with the power of sound
You can break me up, break me down
Turn my life upside down
Brush it off, there and then
Pick my life up again
I'll still keep on dancing
I'll still keep on dancing"
