Prakticaaa Camera

Picked up a new, odd camera today, the Praktica MTL3, made in the German Democratic Republic (That's East Germany to you, capitalist pigs!).
Its an odd SLR... the shutter button is on the front and not the top. It also has the least stealthy shutter and wind noise ever.
But the craziest thing about it is that the light meter is powered by a PX13 mercury battery. And... the battery in this one is still good! 100% accurate compared to my other cameras. The magic of mercury!

PS if you want to see the trippy, bizarre commercial for this camera, look here. I highly recommend giving it a watch! http://youtu.be/ow4GAMUFHVE

Yep! Working on graduate degree at ASU, and native to Mesa!
And thank you so much for the kind words! Photography is just my creative outlet which contrasts my stale engineering degree, so I really appreciate when others like what I do too.

          oh wow that's really cool!
I really like the atmospheres in your work. I'm a big fan of gritty black and white photography. One of my friends recommended you. Funny thing, I actually grew up in mesa, but live in phoenix now.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for that, too but it is so much cheaper to shoot color film nowadays. In any case, the next pack of film going in my Polaroid sx-70 is black and white, so look forward to that!
