It had felt like an eternity since Elizabeth had first formed the courage to talk to Peter, despite it having been barely more than a year since the very first time they had lain eyes on each other in the hospital corridor. Lust and love had interconnected and blossomed between them in the corridor between the fracture clinic and optical departments, and what had started as a fling had soon blossomed into something far different from what either of them had envisioned. Now, they couldn’t imagine their lives without each other being an integral fragment of them, and whenever they were parted, there weren’t many things they desired more than to be in one another’s arms. To Peter, every day was another lifetime, and he had once told her that each such lifetime he got to spend with her was a lifetime well lived. She had tried to think of a comeback to top that with, but she had thus far not been able to think of a phrase that wielded a higher trump card.

Instances of separation were never something they looked forward to, but whenever they did visit each other’s homes, it was as though the differences in their species didn’t matter at all. Today, they both had a day off at the same time, usually a very rare occurrence. This time, they were content to share a long moment in Elizabeth’s living room before embarking on their next outing. Peter had expressed a desire to show her his favourite sushi restaurant in the district just north of Pinophyta City.

“Attention, please.” said Elizabeth with a smirk as she nuzzled against his cheek, even though he didn’t appear to be drifting.

“What is it, my dear?” replied Peter.

“Talk some more.” proposed Elizabeth. “I like the way your voice sounds.”

“Like this?” he said as casually as he could. “Surgery for strabismus is only necessary when other procedures fail to correct this occasional problem.”

“Keep going.” simpered Elizabeth.

“I’m sure you won’t want to listen to me talking about work forever.” continued Peter. “So, I’ve got other ideas.” Elizabeth attentively nodded, anticipation starting to work its way through. “Maybe another date is in order after this one. We’ve got The Happy Quail to look forward to. What do you say you show me your dancing? I know a place we can show you off.”

“We could give it a shot.” smirked Elizabeth. “I’m still not very good at it, though.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure.” smiled Peter. “You really impressed me when you last danced. You underestimate yourself too often.”

“Did I really do that?” she said, not able to suppress a giggle. “I didn’t think I was that good.”

“The crowd will love you next time. You know, we keep learning things about each other, even with all the time we’ve been in each other’s lives. It’s not just medical science we’re getting education on.”

“Nope. Must be the air between us, if you know what I mean.”

Adapting its title from the lyrics of Cosmic Gate’s song Body of Conflict, I bring you another of Saetia’s images of Jinx with her alpaca boyfriend. Can anything beat a tender moment spent with the one you love? ^^
