Mermaid Tail Concept Design by Kiha

Mermaid Tail Concept Design

Kiha

So things have been pretty... mostly-nonexistent on the art front due to being, for the most part, distracted with general life stuff and not really having a whole lot of time to sit down and draw anymore, but I figured I'd share this thing from a while ago to at least prove that I'm still alive and to sort of show off a project that will soon be in the works.

In my last couple of journals I've mentioned my dive into "Mermaiding," which is... Pretty much what it sounds like; people dressing up in mermaid tails and shell bras and swimming in pools, lakes, rivers, etc., pretending to be a mermaid. There's a lot more to it, obviously, but that's a simple enough gist.

BASICALLY, I'm taking the leap into getting my very own swimmable mermaid tail, developing my "mersona" and so on. I'm really excited!

This is the current design for my mersona's tail, based off of a shapeshifting dragoness character I had years and years ago. The two on the top-right are what her idea fluke shape would be-- Merbella Studios Inc.'s "Angler" design, which I feel is really dragon-y and would be best suited for the character, though I haven't decided on the most suitable fins to go with that fluke yet. I wouldn't be getting a Merbella tail for at least two years or so, for a whole bunch of reasons! Which is why I've designed the left and bottom variation which is based more off of a cetacean; the mermaid tail I'm commissioning will be made in neoprene-- divesuit material-- so it will be a lot lighter out of the water and easier for me to practice in.

Though I've been talking with the tailmaker I'll be commissioning, I'm not actually putting my order in for another couple of weeks yet, as I'm still waiting on my tax return to come in. The more I think about it, the more I'm not a hundred percent sure about my neoprene tail design and what features I actually want in terms of fins, fluke style, and so on... I figure when it's time to make my order I'll ask the maker what her suggestions are.

ANYWAY YEAH. Kiha's gonna be a mermaid, woohoo~
