Yes, I've finally posted something after a good few thousand years have passed. The year is now 2019 AD. And this world is... not Earth.
(Yes I know, it's only been four months.)
Anyways, I thought I might post something simple for my first upload of the year. I just decided to create this map texture, (yes I did it from scratch) and just create this planet digitally.
I think it turned out nice. I really tried my best to make it look decent. It's not perfectly realistic, but I don't think it needs to be. I mean, the only Earth-like planet that NASA has ever taken pictures of is... basically Earth. You know?

All I really do is create like a flat map of the continents I want on my planet, much like how the maps of our own world are made.
I use a website called rollforfantasy.com which has a feature that allows me to make randomly generated/customizable continents on a generic looking map. Then I go to my digital program (usually GIMP of Photoshop) and trace over the shape of the continents, and then color everything in. the color of the oceans, as well as adding textures to the continents using pieces of real satellite images. I then take this map and place the texture on a sphere using a program called After Effects.
The end result can look pretty, or it can look trashy. It kind of varies for me. I'm sure you might be able to do something similar with practice. Although I feel as though I'm not explaining it too well. Even so, that's my method of doing it.

This is stunning, I can't get continents to looks anywhere near this good. Honestly I just cover them up with cloud patterns and hope the lighting/color schemes help, HA.
