envelope set

As I have a feeling these would likely never scan well (I need to get out my scanner and scan a bunch of sketchbook pics, honestly)--I took a photo of some envelopes I decorated and will be sending out to pen-pals pretty soon. (Yes, still behind on mail, as well.............STUPID LIFE!)

I realize after doing these, how much I really miss doing envelope art--it used to be a HUGE thing for me..........almost all the envelopes I sent to pen-pals had art of some sort or another on it. Age, time and life got in the way--art gave way to just stickers.........plus the fact that standard envelopes have gotten really thin lately. I barely trust them to hold letters, much less draw anything on them. Hence a reason I'm mailing recent letters in small manila envelopes..............! XD

Gha I love this! I used to make envelopes in dream that one day I'd do a pen pal thing with someone, it never panned out and I either got rid of them all and or they are back in NY either way gone but that is so awesome :D

For future ones though while making the art leave a blank space specifically for the name and address of the person your sending it to, that way it doesn't cover any important aspects of your work

I actually laminate the art side (for weather purposes) and use label stickers for the addresses nowadays. The lamination usually lets someone peel off the labels, if they want. But in the old days I was creative and had address boxes. :)

Thin envelopes remind me of thin index cards since they became thinner in @ 2003.

It's true. I remember that, as well. Before ATCs came about, I used to use index cards to do card-type illustrations. But I suppose as we kill more trees and recycle less.............paper will keep getting thinner and thinner until we're all forced to become digital for everything, you know? sigh
