The only one not impressed? by DarkRyuukin

JEEZ I MOVE AND WHEN I FINALLY HAVE TIME TO COME BACK HERE ALL I SEE IS CHANGE

Ok but seriously here's my qualms with it

...
There are bound to be things I don't want to see (Gore, for one example) that I will now see.

But I don't want to change seeing higher rated material, cause I like my adult art if you know what I mean.

But even then, I might not want to see something that looks... forced you know?

But with these thumb nails I will

YOU SEE MY ISSUE?

...so idk. I may become scarce here if it becomes an issue.

The only one not impressed?

Weasyl does have blacklist filters. I use them a lot and they have worked great for me so I don't have to see things I don't want to.

    • Link

What about if people aren't tagging their items correctly? :O

      • Link

Surprisingly I haven't come across that problem more than once or twice, and when that did happen it was only because they used a tag that I didn't expect (e.g. they used "inflated" instead of "inflation" for that subject material), so all I did was add those tags to my filters too. Definitely try it before deciding to leave. Or you could politely ask someone who posts things you don't want to see to tag things properly if they are frequently not doing so.

          -nods sagely-
Ok I will definitely do that, thank you
You may have just saved me on this site
And thusly art sites as a whole

          • Link

Cool, I'm glad to have helped. I don't like seeing people leave Weasyl. It's such a good site and needs more people to stay and be active.
(The blacklist filters are under settings > preferences > search tag filters in case you didn't know where to find them.)

            • Link

Yeah, that's a very true point, because my other half an issue I had was it seemed no one cared about my art/uploads, or really, even that I favorited/commented on their stuff.

(Found it, thank you. Its working like a charm now)

              • Link

I have that problem too. People don't seem to be very interactive here, but I think if more people actually try staying and making it active it will be much better.

                • Link

That's a good point. I've found people are slightly more open when you comment first, but even then, i have a lot of comments floating out there with no replies, so idk

                  • Link

Yeah. I wonder if some of those comments don't get replied to because the people don't check Weasyl often or left...Sometimes people do just forget to reply to things though, but it seems especially quiet here.

                    • Link

Yeah I know what you mean. But it seems the entire internet is much quieter than it used to be...

                      • Link

I've noticed that too. I think it must be some sort of conditioning due to social media. All people do is "like" or "fave" and move on, and sometimes they don't even bother to do that.

                        • Link

Exactly. I miss the days of like, sheezyart and elfwood, and all the comments from those sites.

            • Link

Actually wait! My submissions updates still have massive amounts of herms! But I set it to off? And even if I click it says "this might have content you don't wish to see" but I already saw all of it due to the new thumbnails?
Do you know if this is temporary and only because I just now switched my settings?

              • Link

Hm, I'm pretty sure that's just because they were already in your message inbox before you added the filters. From now on they shouldn't show up at all.

      • Link

People will rarely ever not tag their picture correctly, because when it comes to fetishes or something like that, they want their artwork to be seen and be popular. So they take the chance with tags.

        • Link

Oh true... that's a very good point, thank you

  • Link

i do see your point there, and hopefully blacklisting the tag will help.
i feel though, that now being able to see the entire submission will help with others viewing submissions more. though you may think that it would be the opposite because now you can see the full image? but for me, i was barely clicking on submissions because none of the cropped pics caught my eye, so i guess i was missing out on a lot of good art.

    • Link

I hope so too, so far its helping at least enough of an amount that its worthwhile to stay
Ohhhh I see. See I'm doing the reverse now, but maybe that'll curb my fave spamming I often did to people as well ^^'

  • Link

This is why I also think artist nude should not be in the same rating as some of the other 18+ stuff. Since well some people might one to see that stuff, but not other thing in that category. I think the different ratings is a good idea. However there is nothing to tell you why it might be blacklisted either? Which is one good thing about dA. Even though as a whole there is a lot I don't like about it.

Like over all I think this site is pretty cool. However I do have a couple of niggles with it. I have been reading the other comments talking about black listing. However how well does that work? Since well some people are good with tagging, but things tag things differently?

    • Link

Generally there are common tags for fetishes. If one happens to slip through that uses a different tag, you can always add it to the blacklist. If it is a case of someone not tagging something properly, or tagging it improperly, you can ask them to correct the tags or add them yourself if that person has the feature enabled.

      • Link

To an extent however some are going to slip through since we don't all use language in the same way. I am just saying it will block most of it, but some is going to slip through. Like that person might be not doing anything wrong, but they might be using different tags that still describe the picture.

Yes you can ask, however that doesn't help on general browsing and not everyone is reasonable. Even people who are reasonable might forget.

    • Link

And I'm not sure why you would need it to say why it is blacklisted if you only blacklist things you don't want to see :o

      • Link

I think you misunderstand. On dA to an extent you tag why you are marking it as mature like nudity, gore, bad language etc. Since there isn't that feature here, if you select 18+ there could be all kinds of things you don't want to see, but want to see the nudity and sexual content. However you might really, really not want to see the gore.

        • Link

Ah, okay. I see what you mean. Again, the blacklist feature should cover you in most cases there. And if the language is different, you can also apply that language to the blacklist. I assume you mean, as an example, someone who calls it guro, instead of gore? In which case you can just blacklist both gore and guro.

          • Link

takes notes on other words to black list

            • Link

So is it anything gore related that you don't want to see?

              • Link

Basically. I mean I like skulls and bones and stuff, but lately innards and MY WHOLE LIFE copious amounts of blood has bothered me, so idk

                • Link

No that makes sense, since well some full on Japanese Guro art really bothers me actually and I don't like seeing it. I am not phased by a lot of things, but I an seen some artists where I have been wow they have skill, but I can't look at it.

Since it can be like really extreme gore. People have different things, so yeah if it bothers you. Or you would simply prefer not to see it, then that is fine.

          • Link

Yes, the could also just refer to it as violence, or blood or things like that. So they might be to themselves describing the picture but, but in the way you are tagging as a blacklist. It seems like a lot of effort to go to for the person if, they have to go around tagging a lot of work. Since well what I see when I tag my work my be different to what others see since we all have tagging habits.

When actually they just might want to just see nudes! Since I really disagree that artist nude is in the same section as all the other 18+ stuff. I have directly complained to them after they changed some of my stuff over. However they stopped replying to me.

            • Link

Well, unfortunately, they have to make generalizations somewhere along the way. If they had separate ratings for each thing, it would become a convoluted mess and nobody would want to use it. Or they would complain that they only want to see female nudity and ask to create separate categories for male and female and beyond. As an example.

But then you will run into the problem of a submission fitting into multiple categories. What if the submission is both an artistic nude, but portrays someone just after a boxing match and is bruised and bloody?

I think the way they have blacklisting is honestly the best option. If you don't want to see any blood, violence, gore, guro, etc. then you should just add these things to your blacklist as you go along.

It's a very simple answer to a complex problem. And if you find someone who tags things improperly or will not listen to reason, you can always put that person on ignore. Then you won't see anything by them anymore. There really is no fool proof method, but they have supplied plenty of tools to help remove what you find offensive.

              • Link

Well personally I would have another category between the pg13 and the 18+ categorised as artistic nude. Which would be classed as not showing full frontal nudity (or detailed genitalia) of either gender, but my show both genders topless and my show bums. I would also personally add the tag that it must not contain any content that would be otherwise covered by the 18+ (non explicit). Which would cover your case.

I think there would be things that would step up an other wise artist nude picture, like the addition or gore.

Since honestly I think there is a big difference between something like this: https://www.weasyl.com/submission/1003858/myfi-s-flute and some of the harder stuff in the 18+ section. I am actually really annoyed that picture is classed the same

Them either use the blacklisting section. Or do what dA do and as you select the current categories have a tick box to why it is in that category.
