Worth the effort? by Babsiwuff

I'll bite. I don't like Weasyl. The updates they make are sporadic, the interface is clunky and weighed down, the updates they keep promising never come, and the traffic is dodgy at best.

But if FA is going the way of the Titanic, I should probably swallow my pride and find out where people are bailing to. So how about it? What's this place like? Should I keep trying to stick around?

Worth the effort?

I dunno, I've never had a problem with weasyl, i think it's slow mostly because people are cling on for dear life to FA. If FA does go belly up, traffic here will probably boon and then they'll probably be able to make the site better. Personally, I'm keeping a presence here because people just up and leaving is the entire reason this site can't take off. People keep leaving because there's no one here because people keep leaving because there's no one here, if you get what I'm saying. Plus its a new (ish) site with a different interface, it's a little uncomfortable at first but you get used to it ^^;; or at least i did.

Eh. I dusted this off as a backup presence several controversies ago, so pretty much everything I’ve posted to FA is here already. Among the artists I follow here, most of the content I see is likewise echoed from FA, and I perceive that discussion and feedback remain concentrated at FA. However, many whom I’m following appear dormant here while they’re active on FA. Maybe they’ve chosen to set up elsewhere, maybe there’s a big game of you-first-no-you going on.

tl;dr: In my experience as mainly a watcher, Weasyl has been far more quiet than FA. YMMV.

It's where my rump rests. The only things I still hate about it are the thumbnails (which is at least on the to-do list, for whatever that's worth) and too many pages just being titled "Weasyl" (which I really should get around to sending a bug report about).

Basically you just did. By the way, we've put in an update to address this. If you would, take a look around, please, and see if things are more to your liking?

Weasyl is quite a nice place, if you excuse the absence of many people. Possibly my favorite part of the site is the fact that it's much easier for developers to use than FA. Outside of that, I've always liked how Weasyl looked (even if it does have some weird margin on bigger screens), especially over FA. My biggest complaints with the site is that it can be a little rough to navigate, and the search function is far inferior to FA's. Either way, this is where I have decided to keep my non-Twitter actions (so pretty much nothing XD), especially after seeing just how bad the staff-community communication is over on FA (seriously, waiting 2 months to tell us you sold the site?).

Some FA members decided to leave FA for Weasyl for various reasons, one of them being more features here on Weasyl than FA. Those features include "Folders" to put submissions in (Ex: If you wanted to have a folder for Peter Venkman fan art, you can create a folder for it and put said art in that folder).

It's up to you if you want to stay here on Weasyl or not. I don't plan to leave either FA or Weasyl anytime soon.

Personally, I am on all four. One never knows what direction the wind will blow.

I made the choice to make an account here (and slowly move all my stuff over. Having ADHD means I tend to keep forgetting to do that..), simply because a lot of the artists I follow use this site as an alternate (and some even use this as a primary) and because FA's slowly sinking into a black hole. It's circling the Rim (or Accretion Disk) now, but every now and then it gets that much closer to the Event Horizon, and thus everything in it gets that much more distorted and warped, so it's only a matter (or anti-matter, depending on who you talk to...) of time before FA gets sucked into the Singularity and gets crushed out of existence.

So basically I'm slowly making this my main account while I still have time, before someone over at FA does something to exponentially speed that process up and shut down the site before I get everything over here (I've already got all my stuff out of my gallery, so I just need to post it here). As to whether you should stay here, well, that's up to you in the end. I will suggest, though, that you keep an account here anyway, just in case. Even if everything wrong with FA gets cleared up (hahhahahahaha), something else could happen that would necessitate you leaving the site, so it's a good idea to have this account as a back-up. Just my two cents. ^^

I'm here for good, I am in the process of deleting all of my FA content. As yet I do not have another art gallery, and I don't think I'll get one, honestly, one is enough to keep up with. Though I found an interesting comparison of features furry galleries offer here: https://en.wikifur.com/wiki/Comparison_of_furry_art_sites

This is way late, but what the heck. Aside from Weasyl, which is an excellent choice if you want to figuratively move to a new place, there are some other sites out there you could call home. Well, site, since I can only think of one other at the moment. InkBunny. Good design, competent admins, and TTs get answered quickly.
The site does have an unfortunate stigma because of what's allowed to be posted there, however; that can be a dealbreaker for many. Either way, FA's okay for now. We'll see whether it goes the way of LiveJournal.

Weasyl is fine, I generally check for updates on here, as I don't keep track of FA anymore. No reason not to keep and cross post to both if you want the biggest audience.
