i am now officially out as trans to both of my parents. theyre older parents, so a little bit confused about some things, but thankfully also highly willing to learn about what it means for me to be nonbinary trans. it will certainly be a process
the bad news, our insurance will not be covering things like hormone therapy. bah
the good news, my parents have agreed to help me pay for hormones, granted i also help them gather information about the whole trans menace and stuff
things may finally be fuckin movin forward oh my god
HRT isn't too bad! My parents' insurances don't cover it*, but between injection supplies and testosterone every couple of months it rounds out to about $1/shot.. but i use the subcutaneous method, not sure if it changes for intramuscular. In any case, good luck!! Once parents are on the same page as you, it gets SOOOOOO much easier.
* BCBS and HPHC (MA - not sure if it varies) both cover "trangender services" but my parents buy healthcare through their jobs - and the jobs have to purchase transgender coverage for it to be available for the individuals.. I was able to get surgery (partially?) covered by HPHC through a loophole, though, so depending on the company you may be able to find one for HRT also! :>
i don't remember where you're located but some planned parenthood locations have HRT options that are WAY faster and cheaper than others- my room mate got her HRT prescribed in like 3 weeks!!
