Gone Quiet? Please respond. by Dusk

Sooooo, I'm noticing that I've been uploading to a dead space more or less here. So I upload a few different places and Weasyl's keyword system is infernal and annoying because I can't just copy/pasta my keywords from another posting of an image. So this makes the process a bit annoying.

Would totally be fine with it if this place even had one person who was talking to me about what I post, but it doesn't. There's no one with a pulse here it seems. Strange though as the front page seems to change images somewhat frequently enough.

So basically, this is a journal to check and see if anyone is out there. If I don't here back from anyone, I may stop posting, or even take my gallery down and leave. I wanted this site to be awesome, but saddly, it's actually just wasting my time to keep up here if no one is even giving a rat's ass.

So, say something! Speak up! Let me know you are out there and that my continued posting matters to you if you would like me to continue!

Gone Quiet? Please respond.

Awesome! Thank you! I just needed to know if my work mattered to anyone at all here. So thank you! Here's hoping you aren't the only one, but your one and I really appreciate that! XD

I'm sure there is more people lol, I notcied on this site people aren't that vocal xD

        • Link

Yeah, like I was saying to another user, I wonder why one one site people are great and on another they are just tuned out and turned off, when, both sites offer the same things more or less. It's so strange.

          • Link

I myself have never been vocal , I prefer to speak when spoken to. Im just guessing people here like to keep to themself ? And only speak when they really feel the need or when spoken to. The site is still youn x: Im sure after some time people will become more vocal.

Pretty much the same story, here. I'm pretty stingy with comments :P

    • Link

Hey, no worries. Not everyone can be earnest hemmingway. I'm just glad to hear you're here XD

  • Link

It seems that people are way too shy on this site lol I've had thoughts of taking my ball and leaving too. But I'm avidly watching ya :)

Thank you, mate. and yeah, what is it I wonder? I'm a student of psyche and social trends facscinate me. I wonder why one one site people are great and on another they are just tuned out and turned off, when, both sites offer the same things more or less. It's so strange.

      • Link

Indeed. I often wonder about the same thing... I'm pretty sure it's just timidity and sheepishness though. A lot of people in the fandom are nice, but won't really start a convo unless they're asked to, and even then, not all the time. Also, weasyl just isn't as popular as the many other websites that are out there (IMO it should. I love this site).

Alternatively, it could just be laziness xD

I don't talk much. And things have been stressful for me.

    • Link

sorry to hear that. Story of everyone's life.

Not many great place to post other than Weasyl. I rarely get comments, so it's hard to know if you're just not making anything that people want to comment on, or if everyone is just browsing without thinking. Hard to say. I do appreciate your posts though. :3

Thanks man. Yeah, I had thought of that. I need to get going on something more solid than just redesigns and character standies.

      • Link

I know what you mean. It's not easy creating scenes with more than one character, or intricate backgrounds, but.. practice makes better, so there is that. :3

If I don't leave a comment I at least try to fav what I see :)

    • Link

yeeeaaaaaah Sigh See, I tend to ignore that. Nothing personal, mate. What ever makes you comfortable. But it takes two mouse clicks worth of time to open a pic and fave it. It tells me nothing of what you thought or what you liked, or what the piece does for you. It's not the same as feedback. I fave and run too. we all do, but really? you should try and comment more. Interaction helps communities grow, while silents makes them sink 8under their own weight, mate. Cheers and here's hoping to see you around more.

I did respond to TakenakaSan's comment on the similar response. So I'll repost some of that here.

"I always thought that if critique is wanted the artist can ask, and then I'll know the artist really does want someone to examine the artwork from all angles and study each and every aspect of it. It's also hard to do this without knowing if the artist likes to see that or not - a lot of artists I've seen prefer critique to be sent privately, or none at all, or not to critique commissions or other types of their work. It's not a one size fits all, sadly, not to mention not everyone is able to express their observations in words or into a bunch of words that make sense. There are also times I rather look at the image than the description - I don't care what is being written all the time, but more what is being shown in the image itself. So sometimes if the artist does request it I can over look it."

I do comment on people's work, but like you, I don't always do it. Which is why I at least fav something I like if I don't leave a comment to show the artist 'Hey, I can't leave a comment on this at this time or don't have much to say, but I really like this so I'll fav it to show you'. However, as an artist, it is also very important that you draw what you like, what you want, etc. I can say that I love this character you drew and expect to see more of it, when in reality it's a character you may not like as much. It does no good for you to think you have to draw that character in the same representation over and over if you're not really enjoying it. If you want critique or feedback on something, put it up for critique. So yea, repeating myself but it's most important for you to do what you want. Everything else usually comes after.

See, that's what Dusk was saying here. Many People are tired of just getting faves. People just click n' fave, click n' fave through half your gallery and leave not a single blurb of feedback. Faving and running is common; we all do it. But when that's all you get? It's like the difference between talking and having a good time behind your artists table at a Con, or having a bunch or creepers slowly make their way up to your table; shifty-eyed browse through your work (adult included) then silently leave and slink back in into the crowd. It's...not the same. Just faving does nothing for the artist. It would be nice to support the artist you like by interacting some! Leave some feedback and have fun! That's where artists thrive and make more of the work people love.

I suppose it has more to do with the fact I can sit there and write on essay critiquing the piece from color to composition and execution of the style, listing the goods and the cons, but sitting down and putting all of that into writing takes away from enjoying the artwork sometimes and makes it feel more like...like work in a way. I sometimes feel like it creates distance from me and the artwork, because it's now a subject to analyze first and enjoy second. Feeling needs to be put aside (unless of course emotion is a strong aspect of the work, in which case emotion becomes part of the written comments).

I always thought that if critique is wanted the artist can ask, and then I'll know the artist really does want someone to examine the artwork from all angles and study each and every aspect of it. So sometimes if the artist does request it I can over look it.

I'm watching, but I do see where you're coming from. Even I'm not getting much attention here as I am with DA and
    FA. :(
