starts sounding like one person who got mad because people say something is so cute it gave them diabetes,
on FA there was this person and his or her minions going all sadface adn rage over that people use the phrase "so cute it gives me diabetes" that they should stop using it.
i juts eyed that journal trhough, and it felt like same journal. So anyone disagreeing with eh person there will get blocked.
I don't know the context, so I can't really comment on that.
I see no issue in being offended by slurs and turns of phrases that are used to justify dehumanizing, fetishizing and murdering people just because they don't meet the standard of an abled white cis person--or as they prefer to call themselves, "normal". because everything that is "abnormal" or "other" is abhorrent, "exotic" or not of human worth. People can say "we're all the same!" 'til the cows come home but it doesn't change the fact that there are different people with different needs, and those needs aren't being met on a societal level.
Sorry, got a little rambly, I have a lot of feelings on this issue.
let me try and explain this
the problem is that the word "shemale" is not like the word "gay", it's more like the word "f*ggot" or the n-word
it's a word that shouldn't be used because it makes people feel like shit and it implies that you hate the group in question. that's what it means when people say something is a slur.
(usually if you don't want someone to kick your ass you'd call them "trans" instead of shemale)
still, its porn, do you get upset about porn?
i dont get it.. or i just have a weird way to look at things
Like Rampack and many others said, porn doesn't exist in a vacuum, it mirrors the world surrounding us and from the looks of it, trans people and intersex people are treated very poorly and their concerns aren't being listened to.
Porn isn't a magic wonderland where all biases disappear, if anything, most of the time one isn't aware of the dominant culture because it's seen as "the norm", and it has very harmful, damaging attitudes and stereotypes that, again, are seen as the status quo and people see no issue with the present circumstances because it does not affect them personally, or they're simply unaware of the bigger picture.
i get upset about porn when it's clearly made by someone who doesn't care if trans/queer people get hurt or worse due to their ignorance
Also some useful alternative terms: https://www.weasyl.com/journal/61206/alternate-term-for-herm#cid146966
Thanks for linking the article, I'm so glad to see people talking about this issue. I'd really like Weasyl to ultimately be a safer place, and for that to happen these discussions need to be had openly and freely.
Sadly there are some pretty awful ideas being expressed in the comments which is disheartening, but maybe if enough people stand up for better treatment we can turn things around. Here's hoping!
I'm afraid I can't see the journal because I actually block those words so if it's tagged with slurs I can't see them >x<
I'm very much against using slurs in porn and I've been guilty of it before. I wish others could just say hey sorry I was wrong and change them, it's not hard to apologize and have empathy ya know? :x
Well, the gist is that the furry/porn community shouldn't use such words with explanations as to why not, and one important part,
"BUT RAMPACK, IT IS FANTASY, IT'S MY CHARACTER, IT CAN BE WHATEVER I WANT!" Well guess what -----art doesn't exist in a vacuum---- it is informed and created based off preexisting culture and this argument basically gives immunity to ANY fantasy art for being held accountable for it's problematic tendencies.
And exactly! A little empathy gets you so far.
