I keep reading comments and journal about how they'll use Weasyl when this place gets more active.
But.. If you don't use this place then how will it ever be active..? I really don't understand the logic behind this.
Hmm. I understand an artist who relies solely on art for their income and so need places like FA for the traffic, but to those who don't; trying sticking around and be active to make this place active.
Yeah it sucks that you're basically starting over and not having the popularity you're used to but don't not try and then complain that no one notices you like they do on X and Y website (where you've been for years). We all began at 0 and were able to build ourselves up - and we can do it again!
This place will not magically become "more active" when everyone leaves over their loss of popularity. Comment more, +fav. more art and support people, get involved.
Bleh.

Kind of like how developers say they'll support the wiiU when more developers support it. Don't you just love paradoxes? XD
Yeah, I don't quite get it either - I still see a lot of stuff only posting to FA. Granted I still have to mirror my FA stuff here, but that's more a time thing. Journal-wise, I post to both, and I check Weasyl now just as often as FA.
Yeah it just..frustrates me to see these comments - no site is gonna "take off" when people refuse to use it due to the lack of traffic (like rainbowapocalypse said, it's like a paradox). Weasyl is the first site that I've been excited about and I want it to succeed so badly haha.
I think most people that say that mean customers. If art is their main source of income, they have to follow the crowd of paying customers. Its still a logic loop as the customers go where the art is, but it makes the group everyone should be trying to convince more obvious. The customers.
Customers won't move though, unless artists promote the heck out of the new site and start giving incentives to convince people to give it a try. I've seen a lot of people do weasyl-users-only discounts and such, and I think it's one of many good ideas to get both their name and the site's name out there.
It's not that simple. Like, those weasyl only deals you mentioned. Because of them I will never commission an artist over Weasyl...because it feels insulting. It wasn't intended as such, but its what it feels like and that's just unacceptable in my mind. The thing is artists aren't just artists they're also business people, because if you want to charge for something that according to every artist, anyone can do, then you have to be business like. Those deals are like an international company saying they won't sell a product to you because of where you're from, no-one would let a company get away with that so some people aren't going to let an artist get away with it. I know artist aren't truly comparable to companies, but people do compare them in that way because both things are asking for the same thing, money in exchange for a service, you want my money you do what the customer wants not what you want, right.
Really its up to Weasyl to come up with a way to get more people not its users. But they've already shot themselves in the foot, I mean the first bit of news I hear about Weasyl is that whole mess about them saying they aren't a furry website...and then their flood of excuses as to why what they said isn't idiotic considering they advertised mainly to the furry fan base. Its a mistake I'd expect from EA's marketing department, not from passionate people hoping to create a great website for artists. Its a small mistake but people keep those in mind. Its the little things that matter at the heart of it all, and after a claim like that...well to most people it sounds like they're saying its bad to be associated with furries, and even if it is, you don't just declare it in a way like that.
Put simple...Weasyl is like, DA...its very business like...it lacks personality. Sure it has fun and quirky parts but those things don't last. A mascot doesn't make a company, its staff do and I've already seen people describe the staff as..standoffish at best.
They'll come when all is done and shiny, not one second before. I mean come on, they're ARTISTS. They already do ALL THE WORK, why the hell should they invest time into moving their stuff somewhere else if there's no instant-profit for them?
It's all about the favs, watches and compliments. If you don't like it, DIE.
Looks like I've been in the art community for too long :(

Yeah, I feel you on that one. More activity will draw more people, more people = more activity! So being more active here is a win-win. :I
