Once you get past the issues with the website it was ridiculously easy to get signed up. I'm finally able to have insurance for the first time in a long time!

  • the reason I haven't been able to get health insurance is that my healthcare under my parents ended when I got married and right after my honey moon, I found an ovarian cyst. And since then have been "pre-existing condition" even though I should have been able to transfer to a new insurance with my husband. SO grateful for heath care now!

I'm under my parent's insurance right now, but I looked into that, and I'm too poor to get anything, I'd have to go through state medicare. XD Which isn't great.

    • Link

ahhh its better than nothing medicine and shots can cost a horrible fortune. x wx

    • Link

Oh, be careful. You can only get state medicaid if you're disabled, pregnant, have dependents, or are a certain age. I couldn't get it because I met none of the criteria. I was told that I was "too old" for medicaid (and I'm 21). Which is BS, personally.

      • Link

really? That's odd. D: I will keep that in mind when I am not on my parents insurance (though I hope that by that time I won't be strapped for cash!)

        • Link

Yeh, really. :c I talked to several reps for Medicaid and they all gave me the same info. I hope you aren't strapped for cash/at least have a job that gives you medical insurance by the time you're off your parents insurance! Because not having had insurance for a short amount of time sucked. :/ I got slapped with a 3k medical bill and now I have to pay it off out of my own pocket. Shit ain't fun.

      • Link

Medicare and Medicaid are actually two different things (: I don't know much about it, but medicaid is for disabled, etc. and medicare is for something else.

        • Link

I believe Medicare is for people who are 50 years and older. xD My dad finally qualifies for it this year. And I read their original statement as Medicaid for some reason. WHOOPS.

          • Link

WELP. I learned a thing, haha~ Maybe OP is an old lady? Ahhahha~

  • Link

you're a doll for posting this just sayin'

    • Link

ahh X//d i..just wantpeople to know they have a choice in it .//w. cause i know many artists donet make enough or have insurance to cover them

  • Link

Well.... As long as it's not Obamacare I'll be on board with it!

    • Link

      ahaha x//d yes!

    • Link

The Affordable Care Act/Universal healthcare act IS "OBAMA CARE"
It is basically America's version of the British NHS (to a degree).

      • Link

        Oh lord.

        • Link

Why is it a bad thing? Before you know it was Obama Care you were all on board with it despite it being exactly the same thing.

Its European style free healthcare for those who can't afford it, why spit on it?

          • Link

It just... It seems like it's kind of slightly dissing those who have to do it.

            • Link

What kind of dumb logic is that!?

              This isn't dissing, its HELPING.

              • Link

But some of the middle class is suffering because of Obamacare. Please do not fight with me over this, it's just an opinion. I never said it was logic.

                • Link

Yeah, keep telling yourself that. I'll just sit here along with every other country in the world who have a system like this and live just peachy in the middle class.

                  • Link

There's no need to be rude, good grief.

                    • Link

Technically, I don't think they were attempting to be rude.
I can see where you are both coming from. However, things may pan out, and the middle class may survive this.
We'll just have to see. I just know that, yes, in many European countries, the Middle Class can still live comfortable lives.
                      No they don't have as much money. But a lot of the way Europe seems to be, is that people go into jobs not for how lucrative they are, but because they either want to help people, or because they enjoy doing it. 8|;

Where as, in America, it seems to be the opposite. As an American. IDEK how to feel about that.

    • Link

But...this is the result of the Affordable Care Art

      • Link

        Hm?

        • Link

The site was build as an aid to uninsured Americans to obtain Insurance after the ACA was passed.

The ACA and Obamacare are the same thing. This is Obamacare insurance~

    • Link

There is no insurance in the US that is not Obamacare, unless your plan was grandfathered in.

      • Link

Will be moving to Kyoto, Japan

        • Link

...where they have government-mandated universal health care. Congrats!

          • Link

I think it'll be better than Obamacare, plus one day it's possible they'll buy out the U.S. anyway. ^^ Um... You're not pissed, are you?

            • Link

No, I'm not mad. :) Actually I'm rather happy because Obamacare means that I'll be able to purchase health insurance. The ACA means that insurance companies will no longer be able to claim that people like me are "uninsurable" because of chronic conditions.

              • Link

Oh, I understand. :) If it helps you then it's fine. But my family is middle class and it's kind of hurting us.

                • Link

No one in the middle class explains /how/ it is hurting them, though.
And yet most of the people in the Middle Class I've known look down their noses when someone who's been poor all their life goes "No, I can't get dental work done and no I cannot afford to go to the doctor."

Soooo.... explain how this is outright hurting the middle class? Because I still don't understand how it is. 8|

                  • Link

The bulk of the taxes it generates is being passed straight to the middle class. And for those in the middle class that DO WORK hard and earn that money by working hard for their families, that kind of seems unfair. Now I understand that some in the lower classes may have disabilities etc. that prevent them from doing so, but I also know many who are on food stamps simply because they are too lazy to get a job, even if they are well-capable of it. And the lack of jobs is due to Obama allowing certain things. I understand the needs of the poor, but I do not understand the "needs" of the lazy and purposely unemployed.

                    • Link

Sorry, I wall of texted, if you don't want to read, here's the gist:

TL;DR: I mostly agree, though I want to point out that most of the lower/poor class aren't the 'welfare queen'/lazy bums living off food stamps kind of people. Most of us work just as hard, and have nothing or very little to show for it. And have to put off medical attention because we literally cannot afford it after bills and groceries. The way taxes work is fucked up, and should go back to how it was long, long ago, where the people with the most money (those with millions or billions of dollars) should be taxed the most, while not stopping them from living a perfectly comfortable life. Not focusing on the middle class and practically trying to obliterate it.

Well, I'd prefer it the way things used to be back in like... the 1950's or something? Where, the people who got taxed the hardest and the most where the people with the most money. IE. Celebrities, huge corporation share holders, etc. Not so badly that they were literally out of money. But, it made sense. They could afford to be taxed a lot, and still have more than enough money to live a comfortable life. Hell, if I suddenly became rich, I'd be more than willing for a portion of the money to go to helping those with less money.

The thing is, a lot of people who are in the upper class, bitch and complain about how they shouldn't have to pay for those who aren't working. Even though, we pay out of our taxes for things like prisons. And most prisons have better conditions than the schools we send our children to. They have better food, better learning facilities, etc. Seems a little fucked up...

Also, yes, even as someone who's been lower class 98% of my life (there were a couple of moments where he had a decent sum of money, but thanks to my step-dad's shitty spending habits LOLZ...) I can totally understand the whole "people who live off food stamps without doing anything else." I dislike that greatly. However, a majority of the lower class isn't like that, and painting us all with that brush isn't fair. We aren't saying that the middle class should be screwed up the bum with taxes just to appease the fact that we are struggling to even live. I don't know how they think just latching onto the middle class alone will help. As the Middle Class can have a lot of money. But nowhere near as much as the (is it like 1%?) of people who are nearly rolling in it, and barely get taxed at all. Of course, I guess that's going into a whole trickle-down theory. But honestly. B|

Also, as far as I know, or at least as far as my mother told me, from when she was on food stamps, the way it works is this. You get the support from food stamps. But in the mean time, you, or someone in your household needs to find a job to support you properly. You have to submit evidence that you are attempting to get a job. Obviously, should the job not cover all the costs you will be needing to paying, some people will still get the support of food stamps/EBT. So, for someone to be able to ride welfare and food stamp stuff... they literally either need to be having kids constantly (which is horrid and I don't agree with. That's fucked up living conditions) or they have to somehow scrape by with not getting a job, and proving they aren't getting a job. 8| Which, by that same coin, means they are spending all that time and energy trying not to have to work... that they could spend working. Or at least getting a part time job. And hollly cowwww I have issues with it. The level of screwed up that is, is astronomical.

But it's still not even half of the people who are considered lower class or poor. :/ And anyone struggling between middle class and lower class is having a hell of a time. lol I believe my family is that way. But then we live in a state where the cost of living keeps going up, but we are making no more, or even less than before. And it's a struggle just to feed ourselves after paying bills. :/

I get the 'being lazy' thing. But I don't conscribe to it. SUREEE I'd love to be able to just sit around all day doing nothing. Or just things that please me. I'm certain many people feel that way. But I know, in order to survive and have any money, I have to work. Even if it's a part time job. I don't feel, anyone who is purposefully lazy or refuses to work (vs. not being allowed to work because some companies are sexist, racist, etc) is allowed to bitch about how little money they have or get. :|

Wow you posted about the state of the union and about healthcare you're such an admirable citizen that actually follows this stuff ahhh. Paps ur face gently with love.

    • Link

I really want to make sure a future especially since i;m in it X//d will be helpful to me and others. Voting and paying attention is the least i can do -loves paps-

Once you get past the issues with the website it was ridiculously easy to get signed up. I'm finally able to have insurance for the first time in a long time!

    • Link

ahh yes thats something i wanted to hear may i use your words as a quote for the journal??

      • Link

Sure! To give a little more depth, the reason I haven't been able to get health insurance is that my healthcare under my parents ended when I got married and right after my honey moon, I found an ovarian cyst. And since then have been "pre-existing condition" even though I should have been able to transfer to a new insurance with my husband. SO grateful for heath care now!

        • Link

thank you so much hopefully this can help others get an idea what it can do for them .//w. i'm so so very glad you managed to get the insurance!

  • Link

I'm still covered under my parents thank the lord. I go to the emergency room to often not to have health insurance. This is great that you are posting this for awareness, though. Not everyone knows about the choices out there, esp. younger folk who are just dealing with this sort of thing for the first time.

    • Link

yeah for sure it can be pretty tough, i'm in the same boat as you and i'm happy my dads insurance takes care of me, but i only have ayear left forit x//d

    • Link

I wish my insurance covered emergency room visits D: I get stuck going there a few times a year myself....I owe the hospital way too much money.

  • Link

Unfortunately we fall right into that lower middle class bracket where the only coverage available to us is way too expensive for us to afford so our only choice is to take the stupid tax hit. I've met way too many people in our position, it really sucks.

    • Link

Thanks for reminding people though, that's kind of you.

      • Link

ahhh that suuucks ;A; aslkjwai i'm sorry it had to be like that.. mayebe after a ocupel of years it'll work out the kinks.

        • Link

I really hope so, but I've almost graduated from college so hopefully after that I'll land a job with some fancy benefits and it won't be a problem anymore for us at least, but yeah something has gotta give for the lower middle class, we hang on by just a thread as it is, we can't afford luxuries like health insurance, especially since I have a preexisting condition. They can't deny you anymore but they can site charge you.

I am happy that Medicaid changed the policy, it was impossible to get unless you were pregnant or homeless, now regular poor/lower class people can get on it to. Maybe things will get better for other people as well.

  • Link

Idk if someone has said this yet, but you can be under your parents insurance until you are 25! pretty crazy if i have to say so myself

    • Link

acutally till 26! X//d obama moved it up since he knows everybodies still in school or with their parents aroudn that age.

  • Link

Insurance is always good no matter how small it seems...without insurance, my Synthroid prescription would be like $200 a month. With it, I only pay $10. Get insurance...it's worth it in the long run!!!!!!!!

    • Link

Yeah for sure heck i was getting medicine for my tummy and all together waslike 600 i wa slike "Whaaaa you guys have my insurance right' and they were like nope i showed them and it turned into freaking 30 bucks. Xd

      • Link

It's crazy how expensive prescription stuff is. rollls on the floor

  • Link

I'm in the weird position where I'm on my parent's insurance til I turn 26 on the 15th of April lol. AFTER THAT, I JUST GOTTA HOPE I DON'T GET SICK OR NEED MY TEETH FIXED LOL. /O\ idk this is a transitional year for me so I'm in a weird place in a lot of ways. ADULTHOOD IS HAAARRRDDD.

    • Link

I suggest asking them for information seeing if you can get it a bit later or how things work for that X//d cause I'm going to be soon in that position but thankfully i'll only be two months without insurance till the next year.

      • Link

We've talked about it before; I'm 99.9% sure that my 26th birthday is the cutoff and there's nothing I can do. :c Assuming by "them" you mean my parents, anyway.

        • Link

oh no i mean you can easily chat with the people on the website to ask them quesitons to help you on your healtcare quesitons and such I asked them as well and they were really informative. I think its chat speak.

  • Link

I really need to bug the fiancé into signing up, thanks for the reminder!

    • Link

      No probs! .//w. goodlucks!

  • Link

I'm luckily on my parents' insurance and will be for two more years! After that, I hope I'm able to sign up for the mandate. Even though I'm relatively healthy, a national insurance plan as such only works best when everyone is paying into the pool to collectively lower costs. And even then, you never know what will happen down the road! Thanks for sharing. ^^

    • Link

you'll keep hearing reminders form me as the years pass X//d so hopefully the both of us can rememebr when the time comes! I totally agree with you on that u//u i hope things iwll become easier for everybody.

  • Link

This is really kindhearted of you to do this, as so many people told you by now~ I am grateful that someone out there cares enough to spread this around for all who are dealing or about to do deal with this. I will definitely look into this~ Thank you so much! Hugs and a Hershey's kiss~

    • Link

ahh X//d its the least i can do, i vote and make sure to keep a heads up on certain things that attain to me and others. thank you I hope you can get the insurance you need .//w. -eats the candies-

  • Link

Thanks for the reminder! -signs up before her uninsured ass forgets-

    • Link

alksjiwao no probs i'll be reminding peeps each year X//d

  • Link

I can't afford health insurance of any sort, and while I'm disabled, it's not severe enough to allow me to get any sort of disability/Medicaid help, plus, since it's a preexisting condition, it might be just that much harder... So, I'm basically screwed over in that area, which sucks because I can barely even afford my needed medications as it is, and I have two chipped teeth that I need to get permanent fillings for (only have temp. ones right now) by the time summer gets here.

    • Link

have you tried communicating with the special help chat they have? they might be able to walk you through and help find you soemthing better your still young so there's many benefits out there. I hoep they can help you find something that accomadates you!

      • Link

Haven't bothered since the job I have has literally no stable hours since it's an on-call position, which means I'm only working very sporadically and the position is only 2hrs/day when I DO work, so yeah... As it is, I won't know if I'm working Monday morning until Sunday night when the person I'm covering for calls me to let me know. So, it's a very unstable job, and nothing else is working out (in about a year and a half only had two interviews and never heard back after that).

        • Link

give the website a try they can answer your questiosn adn any other information or if you want you can send me a note and i'll ask them for you .//w. i would like to help you out! i think you can get something to cover you

          • Link

I can probably give it a look and see what info I can find. I'm just mostly worried about the preexisting condition messing things up though =/

            • Link

they shouldn't they made it so that it wouldn't prevent you from having insurance, if you dont make alot of money that'll be a plus for sure

  • Link

I just got my healthcare from there! It was super easy and cost nothing.

    • Link

WONderufl may i add you as a quote in the post?? <3

      • Link

        Oh yeah totally!

  • Link

Even though Im covered, im going to hug you just for posting this
    hugs tightly

    • Link

-hugs back- thank you! could always spread the word around i'm sure it'll help out the few rare people who dont know of this even!

      • Link

Yep yep~! Im at least glad people are looking through this (even if things over here's not all that great)

  • Link

Hehe I'm insured(for health that is) by the state I live in... but only until 6 weeks after I have my baby...

    • Link

ahhh ffff i hope it helps you out with everything otl..

      • Link

It covers all medical costs while im pregnant minus some prescriptions that werent approved. covers delivery and then my 6 week check up after wards and then the insurance transfers to baby for the first year of life. then after that i'll have to reapply if I dont have insurance through my husband by then since I'm a home maker.

  • Link

Yeah, I'm applying for some now through WA HealthPlanFinder.
It is pretty hard to get insurance without a social yet. Stupid visa, y u no process faster?

    • Link

ahhh i can imagignene;asldkwoa dumb visa -shakes fist- i remember obama's going to fix the immigration process, so i hope for suture peeps it'll be easier.

      • Link

I hope so! No one should have to go through this shit. :<
I applied in October, and all I have heard from them is "Hey, we got your application!"

        • Link

Just so you know it took WA 6 months to change my last name to the proper one after getting married. But other then that I have no complaints about them they just seem to take forever sometimes. Good luck with your Visa deary ^_^
