I just.........don't........Pokemon. *headdesk* by keirajo

So, we've decided to Gigantamax the Dynamax Pokemon. headdesk I mean, all this is is just a Mega Forme with a different name (and size).

Oh, but we're not doing Mega Formes, right? No, this is a Gigantamax Forme.

I don't even............... grinds forehead on desk

Yamper's absolutely adorable, which means if it evolves, it'll be something very ugly. And we get more food-based Pokemon, which should be somewhat criminal that Pokemon look like FOOD. shakes head

Just what direction are we going anymore, GameFreak? sigh

Share your thoughts with me and your fellow readers of this journal--I enjoy hearing them! :)

I like how they're using their resources on animating a freaking giant cake pokemon instead of adding all of the other pokemon in :/

      True that. nods

Never had an issue with the food based pokemon, there have been weirder in my opinion.

However I do feel that I'm unsure what gamefreak is trying to do. I want the game but is it worth getting preorder?
I understand a want to build a more competitive scene. Could it have been done with out cutting out pokemon.

I think so, but not with out sacrifice either way.

Competitive pokemon play was difficult to get into. Obviously for a long time there where tiers and EV / IV Training that was complex and difficult should you battle the wrong type of pokemon. Over the series they tried to change this with different apps. Sun and Moon Had a specific app, The name of which escapes me, that was like soccer with a pokemon shaped balloon? Anyone know what I'm talking about I never used it more then twice?

But I feel they are ignoring a major group that played thier games. The collector. We have been catching them all since the launch of red and Green in Japan. It is a huge market I'm sure. And they cut it out completely. I being one of those collectors.

It would be cool to rework the Competitive scene, but I don't think it needed to sacrifice the Catch them all motto..

Will I still buy the games.... Maybe..... But it is getting harder to justify the main series.

Where's my Mystery Dungeon Dang it!?

Oh That training thing. I used the training things. Wasn't that X/Y? (dunno if in Sun/Moon because never played the whole thing still. It was too much cutscene). EV training was nice doing it that way because it was also fun.

They are ignoring the collector. My favorite series set was ruby/saphire/emerald/firered/leafgreen/// because all those games didn't have every pokemon in them, but you were still able to trade between them so that you could get them all.

      Mystery Dungeon Forever.

I think you are right it was X/Y that had the ev Training. It was called Super Training and I didn't use it often.

At the risk of admitting how much of a nerd I can be here, I loved Sun and Moon's story so I didn't mind the cut scenes but admit I'm a sucker for a story good or bad lol. The story in Moon and Sun was kinda eh at best but I enjoyed it.

Sadly I got Leafgreen so late into the game I didn't get to check it out yet. But I got it for my collection, (Thanks to a good, good friend) so I can dabble into it some day.

Personal fave, Soul silver. It's a classic that felt improved upon rather then a complete copy or completely revamped. It felt balanced and the pokemon following you was a nice touch with the Pokewalker. I loved that game. Even got a heart gold, (Thanks to my brother who did not want the game anymore) with the walker.

I am sad that the games are loosing their touch in some way. But maybe pokemon needs a long break to rethink what they want to brand.

Mystery Dungeon forever and ever. PLEASE let there be another one someday XD

I know what you mean. I think we could very much not need all this extra stuff for good old competitive gameplay though. As the saying goes "keep it simple, stupid". Dynamax, Gigantamax.............these are gimmicks and if the goal is competitive play, none of this is really necessary. As much as I harp on Kanto and being sick of Kanto--Kanto had none of these gimmicks. It was catch them all and play with others. I miss those days of Pokemon, very much.

The super-training! I remember that. There was also the whole Gold Bottle Cap item thing, too. XD

Yeah, for those of us who've given our money to Nintendo for years............it seems they've gone the route of "we need a gimmick to get new players"--and in the end scare their long-time players away. New gimmicks every new game is what pretty much destroyed the "Sonic" franchise! No one will ever learn this lesson, though.

Yeah, whatever happened to all the effort they put into a "Mystery Dungeon" game and why have they stopped??? nods

      • Link

Mystery Dungeon was actually developed bay Chunsoft not GameFreak
Why they stopped I'm not sure. could be many reasons.
Either way I cried blue - sky at the end every time. OMG. That's a game.

But yeah the gimmick thing is never learned from.

Some of them where neat others I question.

I understand having to reach out to new fans. I really do but to alienate your older fans... you forget your roots. What gave your game heart to reach these people on a nostalgic level.

Will I get sword and/or shield? I'm..... unsure at this point. I want the game but is it worth it? I really dunno.

        • Link

Ooooh, that's right.........it's been so long since I've played a Mystery Dungeon game I forgot! I wonder, is ChunSoft still around? Maybe that's why there's no new game in the series?

I have a game idea with a fun gimmick--how about you play as a Pokemon and make friends with other Pokemon (add them to your party) as you travel and you COLLECT TRAINERS. Gym Leaders would be those evolved Pokemon and harder to catch, while Elite Four and Champion level Trainers are like Legendary Pokemon. They can take some of the fun of the Mystery Dungeon series, by seeing the world through Pokemon eyes--and have the reverse of collecting Pokemon, while building an interchangable party like "Fire Emblem" or a "Tales" game or something. :)

The sad thing is, the adults who now have money that they didn't as kids, are the ones who will buy the game within the first week.............many kids may have to wait for a birthday or holiday to get it.

It's too bad Nintendo games never go down in price--so even if you wait 4-6 months after the release, it's still going to be $50-60. :/ So, I guess you can buy it when you can buy it, no lower price change will entice you later on.

Lol. Best Gimmick, we'll make millions.
Hear that gamefreak we thought of it here first!
            lol.

Any way, ChunSoft is still around. And I think still actively making other games.

            https://www.spike-chunsoft.com/games/

This is true.. Heck I'm 27.

There is always preowned, that's how I got white 2. But it comes with it's disadvantages like not having a case x.x

            • Link

We shall! The first Pokemon RPG from an "independent studio of fans"! XD

That's pretty cool, then! If they're actually still around. With a lot of those other companies up and vanishing or merging with other companies, it's hard to tell sometimes. Heck, I never realized Atlus and Sega merged until I played "Persona 5"! @_@

It also depends on the pre-owned place you're buying from. The small locals jack up the prices of USED RPGs (that includes Pokemon) so high, that it's just a few bucks difference. GameStop has very little price difference in new and used Nintendo titles, unless it has no case at all and it's in their little locked glass case and they put it in a sleeve for you to take home. I just noticed our local Wal-Mart and Target no longer have physical copies of "Super Mario Odyssey" and have actually put those digital download cards for it inside of their locked cases! :o

I WAS WAIN for your journal!!!!

:3 The Whipped Cream pokemon is the epidomy of Lewd pokemon. Did you reads its description? XD The description tops it off along with it being cute and looking like whipped cream. I want more Fae Fairy pokemon than Food Fairy pokemon. The designs this gen are really all over the place, too.

I'm okay with Yamper, but I don't like how it looks like a balloon. I want it to have little leggies, not rodent feets. Only complaint about Yamper, because I was looking forward to a corgi eventually.

i'm not excited for SwSh at all anymore quite especially after them saying no national dex at all for the sake of "animation". even though battling still uses the old animation movements. even though pokemon gameplay is spent mostly in battles. The game itself has yet to offer me anything of interest. Dynamaxing was fine for me since it'd be something all pokemon get instead of a few. Not keen on... Gigantamax.

    • Link

It almost makes you wonder if they had a "Pokemon design contest" and just took all the designs hundreds of people turned in! XD

I can't ever use a Pokemon that looks like food. It looks so wrong. It IS so wrong.......! And yeah, the descriptions--but then look at Ghost descriptions, or even Metagross' description (the mouth on the underside so they can devour their prey?). I hope kids never read the PokeDex descriptions, honestly...............! XD

      I'm glad for a Corgi, but I get your point--it could've been way cuter. But, still............I'm happy for a Corgi anyways. I just worry at what it's possible evolution may be like. It's gonna be so ugly.............. ;_;

Gigantamax is just Mega Evolution, remember that--there's nothing inherently special in it, except they get a special Z-Move. Hey, we combined old gimmicks into something new! XD I'm not sold on even pre-ordering it anymore............and being Pokemon, I know it'll be around forever after its release...........

      Our poor Pokemon franchise.............. ;_;
