So, Pokemon fans.......... by keirajo

What do you think of the news that just was announced?

Are you happy for more mobile games, more mobile-enhanced content?

How do you feel about "Pokemon Home" (the cloud-based service that will tie everything together)? How about apps like "Pokemon Sleep"? The new "Pokemon Go PLUS+" device? Or even the new games that were announced........."Pokemon Masters" and "Detective Pikachu 2"? Kilo can already tell you I called the "Detective Pikachu 2" yesterday before the big announcement--there was no way that was NOT coming out, given the hype and the movie. "Pokemon Home" is a semi-accurate assessment of my call for a new "Pokemon Bank"--because that's essentially what it is............so, I predicted some of this stuff yesterday.

They're still making us wait until that June date for the "Sword/Shield" announcement, but let me tell you right now--I guarantee we'll see the Legendaries revealed and probably the "evil organization" that will plague the new region. If they reveal anything else besides that--it could be the next evolution for the Starters or the first few Pokemon you'll meet on your journey (which are usually a Bug, a Bird or a Rodent of some sort).

It's about time we hear of new Eevee evolutions, too. If I had to play a guessing game of new Pokemon reveals for Sword/Shield that'll be upcoming in the next few months after E3............I'll bet we'll see at least one new Eevee evolution and likely a new chain evolution for a classic Pokemon (either a Mega forme or a third evolution for a Pokemon that currently only has two). Since creation Region-unique Pokemon came about in Alola--we may even see Region specifics for currently existing Pokemon in this new Region.

Should THAT be the case.............pay very close attention to what those are, it will be a hint on what classic Region will get a revamp in some way. As Kanto Region Pokemon got Alola designs, we got "Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee" in return. This is a thing GameFreak always does, since "Platinum" at least! The Region of a new game will almost always hint at a remake in some way of a classic Region.

So, feel free to share your opinions here with me and everyone else who might read this journal! :D

Mine..............I'm too old for mobile games. Give me a console or handheld system game any day. headdesk

If they do the regional variant thing again, I REALLY hope they give pokemon from other gens some love. Give kanto a rest :/

    • Link

True. But also like I said--if you see a good chunk of those regional variants from one reason in particular, then you know it's going to be a hint on what region gets the next remake, too! XD

Pokemon Home: A Storage service that isn't just for the 3DS is I think good now that 3ds is now obsolete. I don't know how I feel about pokemon Sleep since I don't even know how the game is supposed to work. one thing I do know is that I find it really weird to think about something tracking when I sleep. I never played detective Pikachu, but I think it's pretty good marketing on their part to announce a 2nd after their movie. The game can ride the hyper whether it's good or not. Marketing is scary. With how the pokemon series is going, though, the main games for a while have all felt like "Test run for Feature X to be implemented in future game Y".

Sword SHield: I'm honestly so sad that there haven't been more news about the game. the one thing I Love about new Gens is the leaks and the reveals that happen. It's exciting, and thre's been SO LITTLE for this Gen. I would honestly like 2 new sets of eevelutions. Dragona ann Steel would also match in with Sylveon while also keeping the theme of this gen. It would be like having a Trio spread across the generations. I was honestly expecting dragon and steel/poison with Sylveon and was quite dissapointed with the singular eeveelution.

I'd be quite thrilled to have more regional Varients in the series. It was one thing I absolutely love, and both vulpix and sandshrew were an absolute love for me for Alola.

I MISS THE MYSTERY DUNGEON SERIES!!!!!

      • Link

I figured on a "Pokemon Bank" version that would link mobile and Switch (given the Switch's BlueTooth compatibility) and we got "Home". But "Sleep" sounds so much like...............they want to make their own fitness app, maybe? @_@ I mean, given the "Pokemon Go PLUS" device was not all unlike the old PokeWalker............. XD

I've been rather surprised about the lack of "leaks" for Sword/Shield myself. Either GameFreak's been super-secretive about this game or.............they really don't have much of the game done yet. Surprising as they're aiming for that late 2019 release date..........but as I've discussed with Kilo via e-mails, I have a feeling it's going to be another rushed game like X/Y and be plagued with patches on a weekly basis for the next 6 months. The old part of me wishes companies would actually take the time to COMPLETE and TEST a game thoroughly before releasing it instead of "let's get it out there and if it's broken we'll just keep putting band-aids on it". :/

I'll be most curious to see just what types they make new Eevees for, truthfully.............I'd like them to surprise us and not do obvious (you know, Dragon? XD), but maybe Poison? Since Sylveon is Fairy, we need to have an opposite--since that's how the "pairs" have been in previous releases. With Regional variants as a "thing" now, I really do expect to see more! ;)

Mystery Dungeon is a fun series and it surprises me we haven't seen one since the era of X/Y--it's been a really long time! :o

I really like pokemon go, it would have been a GREAT game for me to play if... they made the areas they spawn actual random instead of a specified area. *lives in middle of nowhere according to Niantic. I love going on walks and if I could catch pokemon, too, I would have loved that. But the sleep one just seems really weird. How would it even work?

The only things I've seen are artists constantly creating fake leaks and laughing like mad men since the announcement. I really hope that they don't launch it unfinished. i was honestly really nervous to hear it was going to be launched this year. I'm more nervous now because it's almost half year over and we only saw the starters. I probably won't be getting the game since I don't even have a switch, but I still like the pokemon series. I might get it eventually if it isn't broken. Lucky for me, I'm a slow player and completely missed the X/Y Game breaking bugs before it got fixed. :P X/Y was rather lacking in fun things. Sun/Moon was lacking adventure and discovery, I haven't been able to complete it because of the hand holding-ness of it. :T I hope that Sword/Shield won't be hand holdy either.

I'd like a poison eevee, too. Aside from dragon I really want, I've wanted poison and flying. I thought sylveon was going to be flying since it looked like a kite XD

AH, I'd like it if they could keep the Overworld Avatar able to be swapped out like in red/blue. Teams being able to gather multiple of same types like Sky. I liked the 3D one's attack button set up. I think that the Mystery Dungeon's Attacks are way more fun and make more sense than the main series. Protect is actually really useful in Mystery Dungeon.

          • Link

Oh, I hear that! Besides the fact I have a limited data plan for my phone............I know from everyone else around here there's no real Pokemon worth catching. Weedle and that's it, for anything I'd actually want. And I walk a crap-ton! XD I still use my HG/SS PokeWalker, I have a Feebas in it right now. :)

It's the very sad state of our "now" culture. Most people can't be patient and so companies get to the point where they think they can't afford to be patient...........so with the ability to update-always, they figure: rush the game out, fix it later. I'll be honest...........I've never finished any of the 3DS Pokemon games (except "AlphaSapphire/OmegaRuby"), heck, I don't think I played far in "Black2/White2".......so the last "new region" Pokemon game I played to completion may've been "Black/White". XD

I get that they've made games "simple" so "all players can access it"--but I think in this way, companies start alienating their user base who've thrown money at them for years. It's like the comic book companies and the "reboot phenomenon"--they decide they want new readers and they believe "new readers won't start reading unless they start with #1"...........and in rebooting they make the long-time supportive fans furious and then never get the new readers they really wanted. I feel if Nintendo really wanted to cater to the fandom, they'd make a Pokemon game for the strategy all the older players want and a separate game for the people who just want to wade in the pool.

I cannot wait to see just what a Flying-type Eevee would look like, it would completely turn the Eevee world upsidedown, I think. It's bizarre when you think Sylveon's ribbons aren't "ribbons" but they're really just kind of tentacles? XD Because they're an actual physical part of the Sylveon and are "extra appendages"...........

I'd really like to see them enhance the "Mystery Dungeon" series and introduce some new blood into it (new Pokemon). I hope they'll think about it for the future..............

I lost my Pokewalker and I'm so sad. I still play HG/SS, too. It's just sooo good and they made it better with the pokemon following. I love it so much.

The last new gen of Pokemon I completed to the fullest was Diamond and Pearl. Loved the Custom pokeballs and underground. B/W I really didn't like. i beat the league, but I wasn't interested in the after game. Pokemon started getting thrown to me suddenly that game. I heard that B/W 2 was like 10x better than original, but then I thought... why didn't they just make the first one that good? I never got to play it. I haven't beat Omega/Alpha as soon as I got Latias becaues I just kept flying all over. Still fun.

So the latest thing that bugs me aside from the cutscenes in S/M is that they show you what is super effective or not in battle. I think that instead they should have a type Advantage chart in the Proffessors lab, and only there, as it would make sense that a pokemon researcher would have one. There were a lot of battle strategies I used that hung on people forgetting the type of a pokemon because it wasn't the final evolution. I also really hate megas because when they came out it became impossible to battle others without one.

I hope that the Flying one will be Fluffy. We haven't had a Fluffy Eevee since first gen! All the rest are nice and smooth. Sylveon is a very strange eeveelution. Would they regenerate if they are cut off like some tentacle bearing animals?

OH, the last mystery dungeon game, I hated the partner pokemon. he was such a little jar of mold. I only got halfway through it because I really don't want to go save him.....

              • Link

Awwww! That’s a shame you lost your PokeWalker! I usually only use one of mine at a time (I always buy both versions), but I change up which one I use when the battery runs out. I need to get some new CR2032’s soon, too! XD

The Underground was like the Omega/Ruby/Emerald secret bases, but ten times more fun! Digging for fossils and stuff was just the best! If they would bring back one “unique thing” from from an older game, I’d be hard pressed to say the Underground or the partner Pokémon following you (HG/SS). I loved the partner Pokemon’s “Happy Dance” when you’d talk to them a lot—it made me feel so warm and fuzzy inside! :D

That’s so true! What happened to fluffy Eevee-lutions??? I still think we’re due for a new Eevee evolution this game......I’ll be happy for any type really! Yeah, Sylveon......it’s a strangely beautiful, but super-weird little critter!

Yeah, I definitely miss the “you should know types” thing! I remember back in the days of B/W, I visited a friend and we were going to trade......but she was stuck in a cave and low on health. I had her tell me each Trainer and random encounter, as well as her party—and walked her through battles by type trumping. She was in awe of my knowledge! XD

The last one was......was that “Explorers of Time/Darkness”—or did it have “Sky” in the title. I think the last one I actually played was “Explorers of Darkness”. I have every American-released Pokémon game except the “Let’s Go” ones (and mobile) so it’s in my collection somewhere even if I haven’t played it, but the Lance lover in me really wants to get “Let’s Go” even though I’m told it’s a waste of time........but Laaaaance!!! XD

                • Link

I'd really love followers and the Underground. It's hard to say which one because the underground was playable with my brother, but Followers make the game itself super fun. I had a Tyranitar that Collected ALL the leaves!

The last one was SUper Mystery Dungeon (The 4th series).
Time/Darkness/Sky were the Second Series. Also Sky was soo good with the extra extra content. It was the Emerald to Ruby/Sapphire. If you ever get a chance to grab sky if you haven't already, it's what I'd say the best Mystery Dungeon game.

As for Lets Go, I never got it, but looking at it I think I'd have had fun with the mechanics, but not it being a remake. Firered/Leafgreen was too good of a red/blue remake. I played them way too many times, and knowing where literally every hidden thing is doesn't make me interested in playing it yet again with something that has even less.

                  • Link

I made sure I had a Weedle that collected all the leaves! Their "Happy Dance" still makes me smile even to think about it. I know in "Let's Go, Eevee/Pikachu" they had the follower mechanic, but I don't know how similarly it worked to HG/SS.

Ah, yup--that's right "Super Mystery Dungeon"! I'm not sure why my brain wants to put that chronologically before the Time/Darkness/Sky ones--I'll blame it on early senility, because I'm old. XD I'll have to check the used shops and see if anyone still has "Explorers of Sky" available then! :)

As Kilo and I discuss--Nintendo has a somewhat unhealthy obsession with Kanto. We're both kind of tired of the Kanto focus, in all honesty. At this point, if they want to modernize and older game--we've got the DS family of games they could get to. The Shinou (Sinnoh) Region would be tons of fun to revisit, especially if they bring in the Underground again! And my favorite Dragon-type is from Shinou, Giratina. But I know that the Isshu (Unova) Region barely gets any notice--even now, I barely hear people talk about the B/W family of games. Maybe it's the triple-battle format that frustrated people?

I'm kinda like that with HG/SS. I've replayed "HeartGold" like 5 or 6 times.......I keep an extra Arceus in my "SoulSilver" game to trade back-and-forth with HG to keep getting a level 1 Shinou Legendary each time I replay it and then put the Arceus back into SS! XD

They’re my fave humans from the games! :)

Now I am curious if my favorite humans will be in it.

            • Link

I imagine they won't put everyone in at once--and as a mobile title, they may very well release characters to battle in "packs" of content. Let's hope they don't use THAT particular mechanic to make money off of, but they probably will. :/

              • Link

It worked for Fire Emblem Heroes and Dragalia Lost unfortunately...

                • Link

                  True..........

                  • Link

So recently, there is rumors they'll be passing a loot-box ban so I am guessing gacha might count as a loot-box as well, seeing how gambling is concerned. We'll soon be back to getting to pay for mobile games now which is better than getting the app for free only to see there is a 'pay to win' option.

                    • Link

Yeah, I remember enjoying Pokémon Shuffle on my 3DS (it later hit mobile).......but the way it was designed was at some point you could literally NEVER win unless you spent money to buy power-ups. That’s frustrating to keep spending real-life money to keep playing a game!

                      • Link

I know. I think Granblue Fantasia should be a good reminder why mobile game microtransactions are bad. Excited for this to finally end.

                          Let’s hope so!!!

  • Link

I stopped keeping up with Pokemon. :\ Mega evolutions were pretty much just fanservice for popular Pokemon, Sun and Moon tried too hard to get genwunners back into Pokemon, and the Sword/Shield starters don't even look like Pokemon. I'm still keeping up with the new merch releases, but I couldn't care less about new games unless we get Sinnoh remakes. I'll just stick with the gen 1-5 games and reminisce on Pokemon's better days.

    • Link

I honestly never really used Mega Evolutions in game. I think I cared about Beedrill getting one--as it's a G1 Pokemon that never got much love...........and I like the fact that Mega Gallade has a cape, because capes are awesome! chuckle

There's a part of me that thinks they should go back to a DESIGNED starting Trainer, instead of letting you customize your Trainer--because in-game sometimes you wind up spending money on buying your Trainer new clothes instead of using the money on your Pokemon. I also am unhappy that they don't create a NEW Pokemon game with ALL-NEW Pokemon anymore, either...........because they usually only make about 50 new Pokemon and then fill the game with 150 older ones. I'd love to see GameFreak actually develop something new from the ground up, instead of filling new games with rehashes of older material. :)
